Aprilia could not be satisfied with a maxi-trail pacing roads and journeys. Like his friends and competitors, he needed a machine to go further, which makes you want to blow stones under his wheels. And let’s face it, this RALLY version of the 1200 Caponord is a great exercise. In its Giallo colourway, the scent of sand sprinkles in the eyes, the scent of the dunes seems to glide over the fairing. The taste of backpackers has plenty to work.

The 1200 Caponord Rally seems to want to take again the arid paths that its ancestor had already surveyed. Do you remember the 1000 Caponord Rally Raid from the years 2003-2005? The spirit was already there. Fortunately, in 10 years, we have gone from the block of granite to the rose of the sands; the 1200 is undeniably sexier. But the name Rally does not only bring a warm color like the horizon of the Sahara. Noale’s machine undergoes a few modifications and embeds the must-have of the manufacturer’s technology.

Let’s start with what changes, and above all better suits the rebirth of a vocation. The wheels change size and profile. They are now spoked rims with enduro-road type tires (Metzeler Tourance). The latter also evolve in dimensions: 120 / 70-17 and 180 / 55-17 for the standard version; 120 / 70-19 and 170 / 60-17 for the Rally. The front wheel goes from 17 “to 19”, which should allow easier navigation in rough terrain.
The shoes are installed! There is more than to leave; and away. With aluminum suitcases that smell like trekking, we already have most of the gear for camping between Melun and Timbuktu. A set of tubular protections is there to limit breakage, as is the generous engine spoiler. The triple lens, the identity of Aprilia machines since the RSV4, is reinforced in its efficiency by two LED fog lights. A new adjustable screen will take care of reinforcing the aerodynamic protection.

Wanting to be the must-have in Aprilia’s travel offer, the 1200 Caponord Rally is fitted with ADD (Aprilia Dynamic Damping) active suspension. Lacking in focus at the start and then improved as it should, the system controls the damping in real time, depending on the handling and the road conditions.
This is the beginning of electronic assistance. Because the list of the package charms the fan of technology: ride-by-wire accelerator, cruise control, triple injection mapping, and some deactivatable co-pilots at the pilot’s choice: 2-channel ABS and adjustable traction control on 3 levels.

The Caponord, standard, Travel Pack or Rally, carries 24 liters of benzine. Aprilia did not follow the outbidding of BMW which inflates copiously the tank of its R 1200 GS Adventure. However, the engine is known to be somewhat greedy. This big twin, embedded in the mixed frame of steel tube trellis / aluminum plates, does not know what to drink. He also knows how to make his 125 horses and 11.7 mkg of torque speak with all the enthusiasm of Aprilia. Far from hunting on the land of the KTM Adventure and Ducati Multistrada, fighter planes of the category, the Caponord plays in the field of fun and personality. The Caponord 1200 Rally thus puts forward a complete range of adventurers. The price will of course be accordingly, either relatively strong but more accessible than the references of the segment with the same level of equipment..
