BMW Motorrad starts recall campaign

Danger at the rear wheel

BMW has started a worldwide recall for various models because some components can unintentionally come into contact with the rear wheel. The screw connection between the rocker and the bevel gear may be faulty.

B.MW is recalling a total of 440 bikes worldwide that were produced between October 31, 2019 and January 30, 2020. The models R nineT, R nineT Pure, R nineT Scrambler, R nineT Urban G / S, R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure, R 1250 RT, R 1250 R, R 1250 RS, K 1600 GT, are affected by the recall. K 1600 B. The recall also applies to Germany, where a total of 83 bikes are affected.

Problematic screw connection

The recall campaign had to be started because some components could possibly come into contact with the rear wheel, which can lead to dangerous situations, loss of control and ultimately to accidents. BMW reports the following error pattern: "The material of the bearing journal, which connects the rocker to the angular gear, is not of the correct quality. The necessary yield point is not reached. The error only occurs if the screw connection was tightened manually in the reworking process." Due to the fault, the bearing journal can tear, which can loosen the screw connection between the rocker and the angular gear. This can lead to contact with the spokes of the rear wheel. In the worst case, there is a risk of falling. The journal will be replaced on the affected vehicles.

The workshop visit should only take 20 minutes. The recall began in March and, according to BMW, most of the affected vehicles in Germany have already been treated.
