BMW S 1000 RR from Vietnam: cardboard super sports car
BMW S 1000 RR from Vietnam
Cardboard super athlete finalized
Several Vietnamese have put a very special example of the BMW S 1000 RR on the wheels. When it comes to the material, the hobbyists rely on cardboard. After the basic structure, a second video with a suitable paint job has now been posted on the web.

What to do if you’ve always wanted a BMW S 1000 RR, but simply don’t have the financial means? Saving until you have enough of your own is probably the most common answer to this question. Otherwise, there aren’t many options left.
However, some Vietnamese hobby mechanics obviously did not want to admit this and made their own S 1000 RR out of cardboard, which is actually drivable – at least a video on YouTube shows the cardboard S 1000 RR in motion. If you look out for technical data or the basic components used, you will unfortunately be disappointed. Apart from the video recordings, they express themselves “Doer” not really about the cardboard BMW, which, to be honest, is actually not necessary at all.
Cardboard cladding
The video does not show which two-wheeler should serve as the basis. Apparently, however, it is a bike that is not much larger than 125 cc, if at all. Since the base is obviously not the original BMW, the chassis geometry does not, of course, match the original. This should become clear at the latest when you look at the rear tire. Fans of neatly laid cabling should also not look very closely at some points in the video for self-protection. Accordingly, there are worlds between the original and the bike presented here when it comes to driving characteristics. And yet the creativity of the hobbyist is remarkable. The disguise is not exactly the same as the original, but the similarity is unmistakable. However, it should also be noted that the 2020 series model of the S 1000 RR did not have to serve as a template. The Vietnamese hobbyists oriented themselves on a concept drawing from the Internet, which shows an optically somewhat more aggressive S 1000 RR.
NHET TV.
The BMW S 1000 RR was created with great attention to detail.
In principle, somewhat thicker cardboard panels were cut to size for the cladding and connected to one another with a hot glue gun. The cladding was secured to various cross bars, for example to the frame. Other components like the “tank” and the fender were made from cardboard. Even components not manufactured by BMW, such as the brake discs, have been reproduced more or less successfully. Without a doubt, the cardboard BMW is more of a show bike than a serious vehicle for everyday use. As you can see in the video towards the end, the components can catch fire quickly. Heavy rains are also likely to have a negative impact on the material used. It seems that the S 1000 RR is not the only hobbyist bike that has been built from cardboard. In some places in the video, for example, cardboard panels can be seen with the inscription CBR 1000 RR.
“Painting” follows in the second video
Shortly after the first video was published, the hobbyists posted a second video on the Internet showing how the cardboard BMW S 1000 RR was given a matching paint job. The artists put as much effort into painting the BMW super sports car as they did when assembling the fairing.

The paintwork was also reproduced as true to the original as possible.
The painting is based on the BMW paintwork called Light white / Racing blue metallic / Racing red. The lighting of the cardboard BMW S 1000 RR, on the other hand, is not quite as true to the original. Like in second YouTube video can be seen, the lighting is more reminiscent of a disco ball than the LED lighting of the original. In addition, at the beginning of the video you can see that the team is making adjustments to the swing arm.

Conclusion
The cardboard BMW presented here is of course not a real alternative to the original S 1000 RR. Much more, the cardboard S 1000 RR built in Vietnam has to be viewed with a twinkle in the eye – in any case, the creators cannot be blamed for a lack of creativity.
