Imagine the following scenario: You have exactly two hours, want to start from home and drive as winding a route as possible without having to plan too much. Exactly this function is promised by the developers of Calimoto, a navigation app that is available for iPhones and smartphones with Android. Admittedly: Calimoto is not completely new – nevertheless we wanted to introduce the app to you in more detail, as the developer of the app donated a major update including some new functions in May 2020. Of course, you can also use the app to plan your own routes. It is also possible to plan routes on the PC. About so-called “Via points”, individual waypoints can be moved as the mood takes you and the route can be changed. For enduro riders, forest trails are also shown on the map if required.

Tour recommendations from other users

If you don’t feel like creating your own tours, you have the option of accessing tours that have been released by other users. According to Calimoto, there are thousands of tour recommendations available. If you want to share your tour with other users, you can of course do so. Apart from that, various places of interest for motorcyclists are marked on the map. With the help of the app, for example, petrol stations, mountain passes and biker meet-ups should be easy to find.

Completed tours are then rated by the app. The evaluation shows, among other things, the maximum lean angle achieved for each tour, the speeds achieved, the number of curves and the meters in altitude. The statistics can also be displayed in diagram form. A tracking mode is also integrated in the app, which records the distance traveled when activated. In addition to the visual display on the screen, there is also a voice output for the navigation so that you can tour by ear.

New update brings offline maps

With the latest update, the developers are integrating a function that users of the app have long wanted: offline maps. The required maps can be conveniently downloaded at home and used afterwards, even if the data volume has been used up or you are traveling in regions with weak network reception. Changes to the route can also be made much more easily while on the move and when the network reception is weak.

In principle, the app can be downloaded for free. In the free version, however, some functions such as offline maps, danger zone warning and various analysis tools are not available. Accordingly, there is also a paid premium version (4.99 euros / week or 39.99 euros / year) that includes all functions. For a one-time payment of 69.99 euros, all cards can also be used offline – of course, the offline cards are integrated in the Premius version. Incidentally, Calimoto received a user rating of 4.5 in Google Play – iPhone users even rate the app with 4.6 out of a possible 5 stars.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a tour planner especially for motorcyclists, you might have found the right app with Calimoto. The navigation app also looks very promising due to the good ratings in the individual app stores.
