Catalog of fines for e-scooters
E-scooter sins cost that

With the coming into force of the Small Electric Vehicles Ordinance, the catalog of fines must of course also be updated. We have summarized for you which fines are incurred for which offenses.

On May 17, the Federal Council will vote on the new Small Electric Vehicle Ordinance (eKFV). If the draft goes through, all e-scooters or electric scooters that meet the requirements of the ordinance will finally be allowed on German bike lanes and roads – and thus the drivers will also be legal on the road. It is about time, because there are already many manufacturers with small and medium-sized e-scooters on the market, many already have one under their feet, but have been traveling illegally so far, since without the applicable small electric vehicles ordinance usually no ABE can be issued.

Fines for e-scooters are not particularly high

But even if the Small Electric Vehicle Ordinance is expected to come into force at the end of May and the e-scooters will finally be able to legally participate in road traffic, of course – as with bicycles or cars – not everything is allowed. That is why around two pages in the draft eKFV are devoted to the subject of offenses and fines. They are quite low, as we are used to from most fines in Germany. Example: If you get caught with an e-scooter driving on the sidewalk in this country, it can cost you 15 euros. In France it is currently still allowed to use the sidewalk, but from September 2019 it will be banned and a fine of 135 euros will be charged.

For explanation:

For the ABE, so the general operating permit is usually provided by the manufacturer.

Insurance badge = Insurance number or insurance sticker. Based on the regulations for mopeds and mopeds. The insurance year therefore always starts in March of each year. Both 12 km / h and 20 km / h scooters are subject to insurance. The insurance can also be taken out by minors. The insurance amount should be priced below a moped insurance, which currently costs from 37 euros.

Lighting equipment: Headlights, tail lights, rear reflectors and side reflectors similar to bicycle equipment. Depending on the design, retroreflective white stripes on the tires or rims can replace the side reflectors.

Sound equipment: Since the e-scooters are almost silent on the move, they must be equipped with at least one “brightly sounding bell for necessary danger signals”.
