Driving report Ducati Monster 620 i.e./620s i.e.
Promotion of young talent
Just in time for the one hundred thousandth Monster anniversary, Ducati has given the smallest bare-bones a helping hand with electronic injection and increased displacement.
Before Ducati designer Miguel Galluzzi set out to design the original monsters in 1990, he asked himself what must be on a motorcycle. »Handlebars, engine, two wheels and a gas tank« ?? thought, done. The result was a pure naked bike based on the 851 frame, powered by the 904 cm3 two-valve engine. That was not undisputed. Aprilia boss Ivano Beggio, it is rumored, thought the monsters were a flop. The visionary was wrong here, Galluzzi’s concept worked perfectly. To date, the monster has left the factory in Bologna 100,000 times ?? in order to become an undisputed cult object by the way. Every now and then refreshed with new model variants and detail modifications, the Desmo street sweepers with displacements between 600 and 916 cm3 remained true to themselves for ten years.
Now it’s the turn of the little monster to renovate: Instead of the M 600, the ticket to the Ducati world is now called M 620 i.e. 3.5 millimeters more stroke lifts the still air-cooled two-valve engine from 583 to 618 cm3, the addition »i.e.« refers to the second major novelty. Instead of the previously used 38 carburettor, an injection system? Throttle valve diameter 45 millimeters ?? the mixture on. In combination with a more voluminous airbox, larger valves and a modified exhaust system including two uncontrolled catalytic converters, eight horsepower and a good three newton meters of torque jump out. On top of that, the freshly made Desmo Benjamin is clean enough for Euro 2 ?? in the spirit of a pure eco-conscience while romping around with Ducati’s little street sweeper.
Its 90-degree V2 begins to deliver usable power from 2000 rpm, and from 3000 rpm it runs smoothly. Then the low-frequency vibrations that had previously caused the newly designed instrument panel to vibrate violently disappear, and the twin continues to whiz with a delicious trumpet towards the 10,000-tour mark ?? at the top, however, with a little less vigor. Even after the revision, the engine has retained its brittle charm without being annoying with jerking and jerking. Rating: fully suitable for beginners.
In addition to the typical V2 concert, pilots can enjoy the information offered by the electronic cockpit, which is almost opulent for monster conditions: speedometer, rev counter, two trip meters, clock, oil temperature and service interval display and immobilizer. Otherwise the M 620 i.e. as the guardian of the grail of the straightforward, down-to-earth monster tradition. The clutch requires a strong hand despite hydraulic actuation, and neither you nor the handbrake lever can be adjusted. Instead of the previous single-disc brake, the latter controls two Brembo four-piston calipers with floating 320 discs. So it is a good thing that the 43 mm upside-down fork acts tightly even with a different set-up and does not dive too quickly even with heavy late braking maneuvers, unfortunately the non-adjustable Forcella front deliberately ignores short bumps in return. The new Sachs rear shock, as previously adjustable in the spring base and rebound damping, is much more comfortable. On the other hand, the steel tubular space frame holds the whole thing together unyieldingly stable. Although not previously decried as a soft tissue, the current braid is said to be 30 percent more rigid.
W.As usual, the little monster can be led around the corner with ease, but not overhandedly, the newly formed tubular handlebar, the slightly modified relationship between handlebars, footrests and seat including the rear section à la S4 only attracts die-hard monster connoisseurs. However, the more ambitious among them will probably use the “S” model anyway. Special features: side covers and heel guards made of carbon fiber, aluminum swing arm, handlebar trim and chassis set-up based on the top model S4. Lean angle and agility benefit from the rear, which can be lifted using the length-adjustable push rod, and the bench seat that is around 20 millimeters higher as standard. for the standard 620 optional ?? lets “S” pilots act more relaxed. Oh yes, from October the 620 will be available from the friendly Ducati dealer.
Conclusion – Ducati Monster 620 i.e. / 620s i.e.
After years of criticism, Ducati has practically doubled the braking power and given the Monster 620 models a second brake disc and other high-performance brake calipers. Instruments in the redesigned cockpit now provide analogue and digital information, and an immobilizer is also integrated. The slight increase in displacement in connection with the injection system help the two-cylinder to generate eight more horsepower. The two unregulated catalytic converters ensure a clear conscience, the prices of 14,767 marks for the M 620 i.e and 15,255 marks for the S variant are not too big a hole in your wallet
