The world’s first airbag system in series motorcycle production significantly reduces the risk of injury in certain accident situations, especially in a side impact. MOTORRAD decided not to test the airbag; ADAC has already done it. Result: The driver of a Gold Wing without an airbag would have suffered fatal injuries to the cervical spine in a side impact at 72 km / h on a VW Sharan. It was different with the airbag, except for a broken lower leg, the dummy remained “uninjured”. According to ADAC estimates, an airbag would be effective in around a third of motorcycle crashes against cars / trucks.

Unlike the airbag, people like to experience the navigation system in action. One test consisted of switching from a given route to small and very small secret routes. The navigation system always kept an overview. It only took about two kilometers to drive once to identify a differently chosen, tiny lane. But the conditions were tougher, because this ran in a narrow valley floor between wooded slopes and therefore the satellite reception
was temporarily impaired. The navigation system (with voice output) signaled “North on the street”, thus maintaining the rough orientation.

Commendably, the system immediately accepts every secondary or even detour taken by the driver as an expression of will of a responsible personality and then quickly stops the next
