Driving report Moto Guzzi Griso 1100

Out now!

Let’s forget everyday life. Any stress. Deadline pressure, red lights or unpaid bills. In order to win the most beautiful moments from life, there is now a new recipe: the brand new Griso.

If life were a film set, you could simply escape everyday life through a side door and immerse yourself in a world in which there are no lousy bosses, no alarm clocks or no traffic jams. It may sound presumptuous, but it provides the key to that side door M.oto Guzzi from October in the form of the € 11990 Griso.
As a study of the model at the Intermot 2002 for the first time publicly
was presented, was the response
huge. Because the design didn’t just surprise the traditionalists. The mighty, Guzzi-typical 90-degree V2 chases its rumble, acoustic expressions of life through bends with the diameter of a hearty homemade salami and is framed by a chassis that is somewhere between the usual types of motorcycle. The Griso is a mixture of cruiser, muscle bike, roadster and tourer. Hardly anyone would have bet that the team from Mandello on Lake Como would ever implement the project one to one.
But now it is there. One to one. And ready for a test drive. Fully fueled, fully functional, dewy tires. Speaking of tires: Metzeler Rennsport are mounted on the three-spoke aluminum rims. The designers’ wishes have actually been met and rubbers have been installed with extremely few negative profiles so as not to endanger the overall harmonious appearance. Is it such a good idea? Because before these slippers build up proper grip, a few kilometers have to be unwound.
First thought: Oh god, please help. 1554 millimeters wheelbase, 2260 millimeters total length, squat, as if someone had dropped a piano? that just cannot whistle cleverly around the corner. Apart from these concerns, the Griso comes across as very personable. It starts with the low seat height of 800 millimeters, continues with the very high-quality look and feel, the chrome-plated, butted steel handlebar that lies very comfortably in the hand, right through to the push of the button, the
activates the electric starter and thus triggers the tremor that gives you goose bumps.
There are some things that are very difficult to explain. The Guzzi myth, for example. If the name comes up, most bikers think of black fingernails, huge tool bags, puddles of oil, stationary engine flair, rough load change reactions or vibrations. Sounds off-putting, but you can recognize Guzzi drivers by their satisfied smiles. And that is exactly what happens with the Griso with the first working stroke of the piston.
This beautiful, unique mechanical lace-making. The typical rumble of a 90-degree V2 from the huge rear silencer. The unmistakable nod of the handlebars. As if it were counting every piston stroke. Here, despite the arrival of electronic brownies, nothing is watered down. Here, lovingly coordinated components work in a fat, air-cooled internal combustion engine, which lets the driver share in his joy of every work cycle. Pull dry clutch, engage first gear and disengage.
There it is, the side door from everyday life. Although the rider sits relatively far from the contact point of the front wheel, he is perfectly in the motorcycle
integrated. The Griso conveys the feeling of home. Or finally to have arrived at the most important point in life.
Because she doesn’t care about anything and transfers this serenity to the
Driver. It starts with the weird, yet timeless outfit. And continues with the V2. 1064 cm³, two valves per cylinder, injection. Exactly 88.1 hp
at 7600 rpm. Values that every Fah-
A 1000cc sports motorcycle smiles. But the power of an engine cannot be measured by its performance alone. The Griso is more about magic. In contrast to many high-performance motors, which encourage heating with their aggressive, steeply rising power curve, the Griso unit exudes a sovereign calm.
Why? With the Griso, the combustion engine experience is entertaining on every millimeter of the rev range. No matter if strolling at 2000 or blowing at 8000 tours ?? The V2 always reacts gently to gas commands and looks powerful and harmonious. When driving quickly, it wants to be shifted at just over 6000 rpm. This subjective impression is objectively substantiated, because at 6400 tours the unit produces its strongest torque of 89 Newton meters.
It is a refreshing sovereignty with which this motorcycle sheds everyday life. This is not about speed, arriving or posing. It’s just about driving. Anyone who is out and about on the Griso believes they know: This is roughly how the first motorcyclists must have felt when they first saw the
20th century were allowed to absorb the intoxication of the driving experience.
And the whole thing in connection with a crisp driving dynamics that you would not even expect of this stylish two-wheeler. If you pound a curve with a lot of overconfidence, you can rely on accurately functioning stoppers. Your pressure point is exact, the effect absolutely sufficient. Even if the anchor is thrown full, the upside down fork will not hit the stop. Because the chassis has sports genes in it. Both the fork and the shock absorber can be fully adjusted and offer real reserves in their wide range between comfort and sport. And that’s good. Because the flounder-like, around 250 kilogram heavy Griso, which is initially not expected to be handled, can be twirled effortlessly and playfully through the curves.
It only requires a very small steering impulse via the legs and handlebars? Ratz, fatz the curve is behind you. And they can come lined up like pearls on a string. Because: The Guzzi engine experience has remained. The specter of uncouth manners, however, is gone. The six gears of the transmission can be shifted as smoothly as butter and snap exactly, the engine does not jerk even at low speeds, the cardan works smoothly and with almost no set-up torque, the low load change reactions are forgivable.
And so the Griso seduces its drivers. Through pure pleasure in being on the go. The basic need of every motorcyclist, however, this machine
like no other raises to a maxim.
How does Moto Guzzi describe it all too aptly in the press release: »The Griso
is a motorcycle that leaves its mark. Even before the start and especially afterwards. «Exactly. The best proof is the illusion that everyday life is just a backdrop.
