Driving report: Triumph Daytona 675 R
Triumph refines its three-cylinder super sports car
Content of
Like a good wine, the Triumph Daytona 675 continues to mature in its fifth model year. With the new R version it is driving its development to full bloom.
The letter "R." is a perfectly ordinary one in the normal sense. Like 25 others in the alphabet. In our small motorcycle world, however, the R deserves a very special role. According to the motto: "Much R, much honor ’!", Sports motorcycles in particular are ennobled with as many Rs as possible in the type designation. With the D.aytona 675 R Triumph jumps on this train and for the first time brings a very high-quality Daytona to the market as standard.
The Triumph is warming up in the pit lane of the gorgeous Portimaos racetrack in Portugal with a grumpy, robust, long-term rrrr from the three-cylinder. A dream combination announces itself: the precision tool 675 R meets the most beautiful roller coaster in the world cast in tar. Quickly go through the route again in your mind before you start.

The proven Ohlins TTX 36 shock absorber offers large damping reserves for sporty use.
And into pleasure. As usual, the unchanged triple pushes hard and delivers enough thrust from mid-rev to be able to ride the crests on the rear wheel in the introductory lap. After forced rolling, slight corrections were made to the new Ohlins fork, which is equipped with 9.5 springs. Slightly open rebound damping, put in a little more pressure damping to support the soft spring mentioned when braking, done. There is nothing to complain about about the basic setting of the TTX-36 shock absorber. It responds finely and immediately delivers full damping with the first millimeters of stroke. On the other hand, on the standard automatic switchgear. The guy acts very brusquely, the gear changes are only carried out after a strong impulse on the gearshift lever and then proceed hard, with sometimes violent load shocks. On other motorcycles in the existing test fleet, they were a little softer, but not quite perfect either.
triumph
Not only important for homologation in the Supersport World Championship: the automatic gearshift.
But we don’t want to let that spoil the unbelievable driving pleasure with the 675 R: The faster it gets down to business, the more hearty you grab the R by the horns and pepper into the corners, the clearer the added value of the only 1500 euros extra R package in the foreground. Thanks to soft springs (110 on the shock absorber), the Ohlins elements respond very sensitively and with their wide adjustment ranges dampen everything even at very high speeds. So the Triumph is practically out of the box for heavy use or attacks in race training – even at A license level.
Thanks to the great coordination of the Ohlins ingredients and their sensitive work ethic, the R version is also suitable for everyday life and happy Sunday laps on the home track.
Changes in detail:
- 43 mm Ohlins NIX 30 fork
- Ohlins TTX-36 shock absorber
- Brembo four-piston monoblock brake calipers
- 18 mm radial hand brake pump
- Automatic switch
- Carbon parts on fender, exhaust, cockpit
PS judgment / technical data
triumph
One power: the R version of the Triumph Daytona 675.
PS judgment:
Uff, the Triumph Daytona 675 is already in its fifth model year. And amazingly still a force when it comes to super-sporty shooting on the race and country roads. With the 675 R, the English are not watering down the Daytona’s determination, but are sharpening its qualities. The added value of "R."-Package is a blast, the 1500 euros are definitely money well spent.
