Driving report: Wilbers-Triumph Street Triple
Three-sound
Sound: beguiling. Chassis: crisp. Engine: lively. This is the Street Triple with Wilbers tuning.
Hands off, leave everything as it is. In the case of the Triumph Street Triple, one might think that this would be the logical consequence of brilliant reviews and series of test wins. But good things are often particularly tempting to try to go one better. Or to individualize it, for example to further trim it towards sportiness.
So the suspension and tuning specialist has become W.silver made about the three-cylinder all-rounder to transform it into a hot hit. The compression on the engine was increased, channels and valve seats were machined and an intake camshaft with modified valve timing was used. A power commander controls the mapping of ignition and injection.
The bottom line is that in connection with roaring loud Bos carbon dampers, there is a clearly noticeable increase in power of ten hp. In the upper area, the triple turns more freely, almost poisonous. The price for the additional thrust is, however, a slight loss of torque in the lower range, which is noticeable as a starting weakness in city driving.
The tight Wilbers suspension fits seamlessly into the rigorously sporty orientation. The fork has been redesigned and the shock absorber has been replaced by a Wilbers product with a hydraulically adjustable base. The chassis now looks taut and precise, with plenty of reserves and excellent stability. While the Wilbers steering damper is recommended for every Street Triple driver, the rest is more something for committed stokers.
