Ducati Hypermotard 950 / SP at EICMA
Supermoto reissued
Ducati presented the new Hypermotard 950 at EICMA 2018 in Milan, which will be launched on the market in 2019 – optionally also in an even sharper SP variant.
Ducati donated its Supermoto model Hypermotard 950 for the model year numerous new features. The SP variant will also be thoroughly revised for 2019. In addition to the visual changes that are immediately noticeable, there are also updates in terms of ergonomics, chassis and electronics. The engine has also been adjusted slightly. In the 2019 model year, the water-cooled 937 cm³ V2 will produce 114 hp at 9,000 rpm. The previous model had 110 hp.
New exhaust and lighter components
One of the biggest innovations compared to its predecessor is likely to be the new exhaust. Ducati equips the 2019 Hypermotard with an underseat exhaust. The Desmo-Twin has also got thicker manifold pipes and a collector for Euro 4 approval below the pivot point. A lot has also changed in terms of the seating position:

The slightly better equipped SP variant (left) is almost two kilograms lighter than the standard model.
Ducati has given the Hypermotard a new seat, a new handlebar and a slimmer waist. In addition, the new Hypermotard has become a little shorter. The length is reduced by 53 mm to 1,940 mm. The seat height is still 870 mm.
The weight has also changed: compared to the old Hypermotard, the Ducati engineers were able to achieve a weight saving of 4 kilograms. The engine alone should be 1.5 kilograms lighter than the drive of the predecessor. The rest of the weight savings are due, among other things, to revisions to the frame and new wheels. The Marzochi fork has also become a bit lighter in comparison, resulting in a total weight of 200 kilograms.
Cornering ABS, wheelie control, quick shifter
In terms of assistance systems, a lot has happened in the 2019 Supermoto. Ducati has given the new Hypermotard 950, among other things, cornering ABS and wheelie control. The 4.3-inch TFT display, which can be connected to a smartphone, is also new. There is also an optional quickshifter that comes as standard with the sharper SP variant. Speaking of SP: if you choose the hotter of the two new Hypermotards, you can look forward to a few more extras.
Ducati
The biggest innovation on the 2019 model is likely to be the new exhaust system.
In addition to slight visual differences, the Ducati equips the SP version with a flatter seat and spring elements from Ohlins. This increases the seat height to 890 mm. Thanks to some carbon parts, the SP is also almost two kilograms lighter. When it came to tires, Ducati opted for the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III (120/70 ZR17 front, 180/55/55 ZR17 rear) for the standard model. The SP, however, rolls on Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa.
Initially, both model variants will be available in a red paintwork. The basic price is 12,490 euros, the SP version starts at 16,390 euros. The new models will be available at dealers from January 2019.
