Boss Denis Hertrampf did not tackle the engine of the 959 Panigale to the usual extent. “This time our contribution is a charity-
Motorcycle for a children’s aid project, ”explains Denis. “It will be auctioned for a good cause in September and will appeal to interested parties. That is why it was very important to me that the Ducati could also be driven on the road. “

Of course, they then removed the indicators, mirrors and the license plate holder for the TunerGP.

Fortunately, however, the tuning was not limited to that and the eye-catching paintwork made by children from the Sunte-Marien-Schule in Wietmarschen.

Hertrampf-Ducati 959 Panigale R at the PS-Bridgestone-TunerGP 2016

Meanwhile, the smaller Supersport sister of the Ducati Superbike is practically a 1000. Tuning that does you good is nice. We tested the Hertrampf Ducati 959 Panigale R at the PS Bridgestone TunerGP 2016.
The multi-dealer and tuner Hertrampf from Emsburen is already part of the permanent inventory of the PS-TunerGP. He has been with us regularly for over ten years and served us exciting conversions such as a Panigale R as a radical street fighter or razor-sharp racing irons, for which the Hertrampf Racing Team tapped all the experience from years of IDM work. In principle, this also applies to the project bike for this year’s TunerGP, but the Ducati engine 959 Panigale did not attack boss Denis Hertrampf to the usual extent. “This time our contribution is a charity motorcycle for a children’s aid project,” explains Denis. “It will be auctioned for a good cause in September and will appeal to interested parties. That is why it was very important to me that the Ducati could also be driven on the road. “

Even at 4000 rpm a full 20 Nm more than standard
But back to the engine again: For better power output and homogeneous power delivery, Hertrampf changed the timing and adapted the mapping of the Mitsubishi injection. The much discussed production exhaust was replaced by an Akrapovic Evo system, which actually belongs to the 1299 sister and had to be changed accordingly for the Ducati 959 Panigale. In fact, the bike takes the gas very sensitively and delivers additional thrust in the middle range. Compared to the series, a full 20 Nm more press at 4000 rpm. In the country road relevant range between 5000 and 6000 rpm it is even 30 Nm plus.
Nevertheless, the twin, as an offshoot of the superbike for a two-cylinder, remains an unusually speed-oriented athlete, which on the racetrack only really gets down to business at revs beyond 8000 tours and has to be switched accordingly due to the limiter that will soon come in.
But despite this greed for revs, the Hertrampf Ducati 959 Panigale R is always predictable and manageable compared to the 1299 Beast, especially for hobby pilots with occasional trips to the racetrack. Clean lines, finding precise braking and acceleration points, steadily working towards better lap times – and with a lot of fun – is the credo of this 959.
A chassis to fall in love with
The Hertrampf-Ducati 959 Panigale R sets its big point in this matter with the chassis. No matter how much it shines with everyday qualities – perhaps more than a tester brushed on TunerGP would like. But how this 959 folds down, ironing it safely over the undulating passages of the Lausitzring with wonderfully appealing dampers and reporting on the Pirellis‘ willingness to accept liability at all times is a poem. This is not the first time that the Hertrampf bikes stand out and underline the tuner competence, which operates under the abbreviation HPC.
At the front, the Ohlins FGRT fork received the company’s revision program with a special piston. Among other things, the shims were also exchanged and new top-out springs were added. The shock absorber also includes HPC power pistons. Adjustment is made via valves. The shims of the original TTX strut have been removed. It goes without saying that the Panigale 959 with the modified series deflection and the slightly longer shock absorber stands a little more on the front wheel, which significantly improves the handling compared to the series in the direction of racing.
Precision and stability in inclined positions
We were able to determine how well this works right after the first test turn, when the Ducati 959 Panigale looked a bit overhanded for our taste and turned extremely at the slightest impulse. With that we ended up on the inside of the curbs all too quickly. The rear, which was just a few millimeters lower, provided a remedy. Now the Hertrampf “Zwerg-Panigale” filed like a pure racehorse around the radii, shone with precision and stability in sloping positions without giving up the necessary braking stability. Speaking of brakes: Whoever buys the “Benefactor Panigale” from Emsburen at the end of the auction, can enjoy the most reliable and slow-moving stoppers. Denis has also revised the Brembos – because it is simply good to tackle where “it first makes sense”.
