Honda: First electric 125 cc by 2024
Honda electric roadmap
First electric 125 by 2024
The Japanese industrial giant Honda wants to be completely climate-neutral by 2050 in terms of production and products. The motorcycle division is not left out.

Japan has announced that it will ban the sale of combustion-powered cars from 2035. The car and motorcycle manufacturer Honda has now responded and announced a corresponding departure timetable from the combustion engine.
Honda will cease sales of gasoline cars, including hybrids, worldwide through 2040. But since Honda is also a big player in the motorcycle market, the new strategy has consequences here too. The Japanese have now set clear goals for the motorcycle sector to make gasoline engines even more economical and to increase the use of biofuels. When it comes to electric motorcycles, Honda has announced that it intends to take the top position worldwide.
Battery change system as a key
Honda
Honda believes that the key to successful electrification of motorcycle products is to keep the still expensive battery separate from the motorcycle. Here the key for the Japanese lies in a battery exchange system with standardized battery modules. Honda is already working on relevant standards with numerous competitors in Europe and Japan.
These battery modules will then be used in a wide variety of applications from lawnmowers to motorcycles. Corresponding pilot projects are already running in India.
Honda
Honda’s specific product schedule provides for various two- and three-wheel electric scooters and three electric bikes in the segment up to 125 cm³ by 2024. Honda has already had a patent for a corresponding machine protected. Honda is not yet talking about more powerful motorcycles. But the first real electric motorcycle should only be a matter of time.

There is no getting around the electric motorcycle.
Conclusion
Honda is committed to turning away from the combustion engine. From 2040, this drive technology will come to an end for Honda cars. The motorcycle division will also have to adapt to corresponding changes. Honda has now announced a first timetable.
