When you see the Honda NM4 Vultus, many associations with the design come to mind. Batmobile, spaceship, cruiser scooter. The cruiser scooter can also drive, very nicely.
Sometimes a coincidence is enough. As with the Vultus, NM4 Vultus, to be correct. The name comes from Latin and describes an angry figure. A few young designers at Honda in Japan must have thought of them. They invented the Vultus as project work – without constraints. And as is the case when the lines are long and the specifications are low, the result is something very unusual. The Honda NM4 Vultus looks angry and shows that the inventors are science fiction and comic fans. Because without the spaceship Orion, Enterprise and the human bat from Gotham City, this design would probably not have existed. What followed was another coincidence. Somehow the Honda boss of the mythical world of warp drives, alien galaxies and futuristic Batmobile was not dismissed. Even thought the project was good and pushed ahead with construction.

In addition to the sport mode, manual gear changes strengthen the forward thrust. They allow you to go up and down in the gearbox using two appropriately mounted switches on the left handlebar grip. Automatic is more beautiful with the Honda NM4 Vultus. Also because the transmission electronics remembers the last gear changes and learns from them. In other words: If you keep the throttle tight, you can look forward to late gear changes in the ideal range between 5000 and 6000 revolutions and something like gentle, sporty propulsion. With a wheelbase of 1645 millimeters, the angry space glider can run straight ahead pretty well. If the shortest connection in the street layout is not a line, it is important to grab hold of it. This is due to the long distance between the wheels on the 200 mm roller at the back. But the Vultus wouldn’t be a Honda if it weren’t for cornering too. Fortunately, the running boards only rub against the road surface relatively late. Significantly later than with comparable cruisers. And if the next bend comes too quickly, the ABS-reinforced brake system ensures reliable stops – even several times in a row.
If you look between two curves in the direction of the cockpit, you will find all driving-relevant information digitally processed in a clearly arranged manner. Individualists can even choose their own look for the instrument unit: 25 different background colors can be selected. There is something for everyone, from shrill and scary to conservative and reserved. Honda wants 11,490 euros for the Vultus, in which the function clearly follows the form. The comfortable seating position of the space glider, which is only available in “Matt Ballistic Black Metal”, is always good for casual, relaxed excursions. And maybe Honda will discover the warp drive after all. Then the Honda NM4 Vultus could finally visit its colleagues Orion and Co..
