Kawasaki Z125 Pro
The mini-zett that we don’t get
In the US, Kawasaki countered the success of the Honda MSX with the Z125 Pro. It doesn’t have much in common with the European Z125s. We take a closer look at the bonsai ninja.
Honda is celebrating considerable sales successes in the USA with the small MSX 125, which is called Grom there. The Little Honda has already made the leap across the pond to Europe, but has never achieved cult status like in the USA in this country.
Kawasaki no longer wanted to watch the Japanese competitor’s successful goings-on and countered the Grom 2016 with the Z125 Pro, which has nothing in common with the Z125 Kawasakis offered in this country. The Pro has the typical Z-styling of the larger models and, despite its bonsai format, wants to offer great driving pleasure.
Kawasaki
The Kawasaki Z125 Pro is powered by an air-cooled 125cc four-stroke single with two-valve technology and injection, which hangs in a steel bridge frame. Plastic covers fake an aluminum bridge frame. There is a 7.6 liter tank on top. A four-speed gearbox and a chain direct the drive torque to the rear wheel. The single is allowed to exhale through an under-engine exhaust.
With 10 PS almost 100 km / h fast
The front and rear are 12-inch wheels with 100/90 tires at the front and 120/70 tires at the rear. Brake power is provided by a 200 disc at the front and a 184 disc at the rear, each in conjunction with two-piston calipers. There is no ABS. Despite the dwarf-like dimensions (length 1.70 m, width 0.75 m, height 1.00 m, wheelbase 1.18 m), the dry 102 kilogram Z125 Pro is designed for two passengers.
Power? Kawasaki does not provide any information on this. Like the competition, the 125 should produce around 10 hp. Tests by US colleagues reveal a top speed of almost 100 km / h. The Kawasaki Z125 Pro is available in the USA from around 2,900 euros. Honda is currently taking 3,465 euros for the MSX in this country.
