KTM 890 Duke R (2020)

More displacement and 121 hp for 11,995 euros

EICMA 2019

KTM presented its latest Duke model at EICMA in Milan 2019. The 890 Duke R is positioned between the 790 and 1290. It will cost from 11,995 euros. Now there is a video showing the 890 Duke in action.

Whom the KTM 790 Duke was still too soft, the KTM 890 Duke R posed a serious challenge. It dispenses with some of the everyday elements of its smaller brother and relies on an even more radical naked bike riding experience.

As the name suggests, KTM has increased the displacement of the two-cylinder. The new twin develops 121 hp at 9,250 tours and provides a maximum torque of 99 Nm at 7,750 rpm. Enough to move the 890 Duke R, which weighs 166 kilograms when dry, sufficiently dynamically. The six-speed gearbox has been adapted, but a quickshifter still has to be paid for separately. An anti-hopping clutch is installed as standard for this purpose.

Powerful upgrade for the chassis and brakes

A modified frame plus a new aluminum rear frame ensure one more "more aggressive" Sitting position, the seat height increased to 834 mm. The handlebars have been lowered and the footrests positioned higher. With the spring elements of the 890 handle KTM in the WP Apex box. A fully adjustable USD 43 fork with 140 mm travel was installed at the front. A fully adjustable spring strut with a 150 mm travel is used at the rear.

The brakes were also improved. The four-piston calipers at the front come from Brembo and are called Stylema. They bite into 320 slices. A 240 mm disc supports the rear. Sound familiar? The braking system comes completely from the 1290 Super Duke.

Michelin Powercup2 tires were chosen for the initial tires. With the driving dynamics systems, cornering ABS, three driving modes and lean angle-dependent traction control are always on board. optionally there is a supermoto mode and motor slip control.

The Austrians have set the basic price for the KTM 890 Duke R at 11,995 euros. This means the 890 costs 1,600 euros more than the 790 Duke. At the end of March 2020, KTM released a new video in which the 890 Duke can be seen in action:
