A short snack including a hot drink was planned at the stop after a test drive in Denkendorf, which resulted in a one and a half hour discussion about the sense and nonsense of a BMW R 60/6 conversion.

Limited Edition Mototech BMW R 60/6
Minimalistic and affordable

A BMW R 60/6 from 1976 should a horsepower tester have fun? After a few meters in the saddle of the Mototech-R 60/6, the answer is clear: Unfortunately, this thing is awesome.
“Scrap is going fast,” rushes through my head as I see the BMW R. 60/6 at Rudiger Kranz’s workshop. A spontaneous coffee stop on the way back from a test drive washed up at Mototech in Denkendorf. A short chat including a hot drink was planned, which resulted in a one and a half hour discussion about the sense and nonsense of a BMW R 60/6 conversion.

Limited Edition Mototech BMW R 60/6
Minimalistic and affordable
Much dismantled, but little added
Then this free-standing rear wheel! It is only held by the fragile-looking cardan rocker arm and two gas pressure dampers from the industrial sector. The specially coordinated suspension struts are supported on the radically capped frame of the Mototech BMW R 60/6. The highlight of the gas pressure shock absorbers is the complete elimination of the “elevator effect”", the standard BMWs of this age. The rear light and license plate are now attached to the slim Firestone rear tire. The original silencer, which has been shortened by almost 40 centimeters, and the reworked front wheel mudguard, which now hugs the rear tire, successfully round off the minimalist look of the back end of the 60/6.
If you look closely at the Mototech BMW R 60/6, you will see that a lot has been removed, but little has been added. Thanks to the open K&N air filter now has a small lithium-ion battery in the air filter box. There are no longer any giant clocks enthroned above the original headlights – a small instrument cluster for speed and mileage now resides here. Behind the mono clock, firmly screwed to the upper triple clamp, a well-shaped supermoto handlebar provides support. There are ox eyes in its ends, which inform the following traffic about the pilot’s requests to change direction. Speaking of traffic, how does this iron actually drive?
Exactly the right cloud of sound
With the engine cold, the small battery struggles a little to bring this monument of the drive unit to life, but it succeeds – at the destination Madrid it slips even better. What happens after the first ignited crankshaft revolution is just amazing. The shortened bags and the open air filters create exactly the right cloud of sound to be able to cruise through the area with an emotional charge. You immediately feel like Steve McQueen and even enjoy the sonorous bubbling of the Flat Twin in town without getting on the nerves of neighbors and passers-by. In front of the ice cream parlor and on the way there you are simply the coolest dog on this planet – and that on a minimalist and affordable converted rubber cow! Inconceivably? Hm, sorry, but the Mototech BMW R 60/6 is awesome!
