The biggest pound of the Scrambler is and remains the mighty V2 with 1200 cm³, an unusual cylinder angle of 87 degrees and the equally extraordinary ease of turning.

Thanks to the new plain paintwork, the Scrambler looks contemporary, the color scheme knows hardly any limits. The stainless steel bags still beguile.

Spoked wheels and studded tires add a touch of retro, while the Brembo discs, which are a little smaller than before, ensure good deceleration. Unfortunately, ABS is missing.

Although the Scrambler is five years old, its concept as a naked bike with an off-road look is right on trend.

New work, revised models
New work, revised models, fresh energy: Moto Morini is back. Five years after the last test, MOTORRAD drove the slightly refurbished Scrambler 1200.
E.r is a seducer before the Lord, a real heartbreaker, a true Prince Charming of the scene. No, we’re not talking about George Clooney, but the mighty 1200cc engine from Moto Morini. It is a real pleasure to rediscover him after several years of abstinence. “Have, have, have,” screeches the right hemisphere of the brain responsible for feelings after just a few kilometers. No wonder, because the ultra-short stroke snorts, snorkels, sucks, trembles and lives, it jumps on the gas with relish and turns more enthusiastically than almost any other twin.

Moto Morini Scrambler 1200 in the driving report
New work, revised models
Scrambler 1200 on. Morini’s first Scrambler 1200 came on the market in 2009 and was the daredevil with its thick studded tires, the two filigree mufflers and the beautiful welds on the Verlicchi frame. Today, their concept fits the zeitgeist better than ever, because naked bikes with off-road optics are booming. But that’s not all, you can order them in eleven colors and combine them with four different frame and engine finishes as well as three bench seats – customizing made easy and also very trendy.

Renew Moto Morini Scrambler 1200.
Their V2, which was sung about at the beginning, got a new vote, which should reduce fuel consumption. The starting behavior has improved, the small power drop at 3000 rpm has disappeared, the engine accelerates less rudely, even if involuntary front wheel slaps still occur. In general, the V2 looks more harmonious in the lower rev range than before, without having lost its excessive revving. The anti-hopping clutch, which effectively prevents the rear wheel from punching when braking, does the rest for better handling. The Scrambler needs that too, because as sexy as it looks with the Metzeler Karoo 3 tire – the rubber is not pure joy on asphalt. It works better than the previously assembled Karoo 2, but the rough tread makes the Moto Morini Scrambler 1200 quite wobbly and spongy in corners. If you apply the brakes too boldly, you quickly let go, because what is happening feels suspiciously like an impending front wheel blockage; The Scrambler doesn’t have ABS yet. Basically, however, the Brembo stoppers are okay, they are now a little smaller and no longer grip as ultra-toxic as the first model.
The seat height is uncomfortably noticeable in the hustle and bustle of traffic
The Moto Morini Scrambler 1200 finds suitable terrain on the amazingly empty high-altitude roads around Genoa, narrow passages alternate with wide curves and long straights. A dresser seating position, an appealing chassis that, in addition to the 50s Marzocchi fork, has a fully adjustable Ohlins shock absorber. And this cute engine – that could do a lot with it. If only it weren’t for the studded tires, because steering precision, feedback and grip fall short of what the motorcycle can actually do. If you want to fully enjoy the enormous driving fun that the engine and chassis offer, you should choose the Metzeler Tourance, which is available as an alternative ex works. It doesn’t look that spectacular, but the Scrambler with its sporty engine design is not made for real terrain anyway.
In Genoa, the driving pleasure wanes. In the hustle and bustle of traffic in the port city, the seat height is uncomfortably noticeable at the many traffic lights and intersections: Although it is actually only 83 centimeters, it is made more difficult by the wide bench, and so 1.80-meter drivers are also busy walking. It also shows that the Moto Morini Scrambler 1200 is still comparatively uncompromising on the gas despite the revision – not a source of joy in city traffic. And while we’re at the point of criticism: apart from the standard high-quality leather bag with a capacity of 33 liters, there is no way of storing luggage, the corresponding hooks are missing. All that remains is to use the luggage rack that Morini offers for 210 euros.
Morini invited guests to Genoa because one of the brand’s two showrooms is located here in the marina; the second is at the Trivolzio plant. The fundamental question arises: apart from these shops – how does the willing Morini knight get a scrambler? In Europe only via the Internet, customer service is provided by service points in the respective country. Gradually, however, Moto Morini has come to realize that there is not much government, in other words: sales to be made. “Of course we noticed that many potential customers prefer to buy from the retailer they trust,” admits Elisabetta Capotosti, daughter of the Morini President and responsible for customer service. “That is why we are specifically considering using dealers and importers again in the near future.” Then the currently modest number of 180 motorcycles per year could be increased. Not least thanks to Prince Charming, this still addicting engine.
