With the Street Rod, Harley-Davidson now wants to lure sporty ambitious bikers

To make a car sporty, there is a proven remedy: Lower. With a motorcycle that is exactly the other way around. "We raised the framework significantly," explains Bill Davidson, development director of Harley-Davidson and the founder of the founder, to his latest creation. Motorcyclists know what that means: More ground clearance equal to more inclination. "40 percent", explains Davidson, "instead of 32 as before."
With the Street Rod, the brand from Milwaukee brings for the first time a two-wheeler to the start, which also ambitious drivers can be carried out as quite athletic. With 120 hp from the V2 engine co-developed by Porsche, it is the strongest bike that the traditional company has ever expected its customers. Slightly bent forward, the boots raced on the center, find themselves on a bike, which redefines the philosophy of Harley-driving redefined.
The legs stretched far forward, the head raised highly raised the wind. Darbietend: So you usually steered a Harley-Davidson. This image of the typical American chopper determines the image of the brand – and its clientele. "Today, people drive a Harley who used to dream of it," says Bill Davidson, "and they can afford now. We also have many returnees as customers."
The current trailer on the German motorcycle market hardly brakes the global business. 400000 The expensive trend bikes find annually their buyers who like to jackets, t-shirts and caps with the sweeping Harley lettering. "Loyal fans," Davidson is pleased – but it is primarily older semesters that fulfill their dream of freedom with 30 years of delay.
"With the new models, we want to address younger customers," says Davidson. With the focus on powerful bikes, which started in 2001 with the 117 hp V-Rod, the company corrects its model policy: Long had long been on design and image, while the clientele demanded after growing engine performance and technical innovation.
The fresh cell cure seems to grab: Half of all buyers of the new model generation moved a different brand beforehand. Even in the technical equipment, the Americans are trying to connect – about BMW.
