Top 10 in the Modern Classics category

In the top 10 of the Modern Classics category there are still popular models and the undisputed number one is the Kawasaki Z 900 RS / Cafe.

E.There is only one new entry in the Top 10 of the Modern Classics category in the MOTORRAD Readers’ Choice 2020: the Yamaha XSR 900 in 10th place. But it is not really new in this ranking either, because it only took the top positions in 2019 from, but still knows the top 10 from the 2018 readers’ poll when it also landed in tenth place. At the other end of this list, at the very top, is the Kawasaki Z 900 RS / Cafe with 21.1 percent of the readers’ votes. She was also at the top of the podium last year and the previous year.

Reverse pecking order for new registrations

Even in second place there is no movement, which should please the BMW R nineT, which after 2018 and 2019 has again won the silver medal in the Modern Classics category in 2020 – with 17.8 percent of the reader’s votes. Its sister, the BMW R nineT Scrambler, is well behind the standard variant with just 10.0 percent of the votes. However, only in the MOTORRAD readers’ poll. In the 2019 new registrations, the pecking order is reversed: The scrambler version comes in 41st with a total of 737 units, while the basic R nineT with 687 units ranks behind it in 46th place.

The Triumph Thruxton follows in fourth place with 7.7 percent, which last year was able to place itself ahead of the R nineT Scrambler and on the podium. Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 / Continental GT 650 improved by one place compared to the previous year and achieved fifth place with 5.9 percent approval. The Ducati Scrambler 1100 took sixth place, the Horex VR6 Classic seventh. Two eighth places were awarded to the Honda CB 1100 EX / RS and the Triumph Bonneville T 120 / Black for 3.8 percent approval by our readers.

Readers’ votes and new registrations

In the last column, we also show you the rank of the models in the 2019 new registration statistics in Germany (if the information is available). "k. A.." (no information) can mean that the model has not yet been on sale or has only recently been sold, or has not made it into the top 200 new registrations for other reasons. Because there is no consideration of categories, i.e. all models over 125 cc have to compete against each other.
