250 cm³ to 1,218 cm³ displacement
Fans of motorcycles with a classic look now have a huge selection. We have collected over 40 retro bikes for the driver license classes A and A2 for you.
Brixton
Brixton Cromwell 250 (Euro 4): 249 cm³ displacement, 18 hp, A2-compatible.
With the two smaller Fantic variants Scrambler and Flat Track and the two Brixton Cromwell and Felsberg, the displacement range extends from around 250 cm³ to the Horex VR6 Classic with a displacement of 1,218 cm³.
Retro bikes with max. 48 hp
When it comes to performance, the retro motorcycles are broad: between 18 and 163 hp, there are plenty of models that are actually very versatile. Some models are A2-compatible without throttling, i.e. a maximum of 48 hp: Benelli Imperiale, the 250 Brixtons, the Fantics (250 and 500), all 6 listed Mash models as well as the two 500s from SWM.
Royal Enfield
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: 648 cm³ displacement, 48 hp, A2-compatible.
Royal Enfield Interceptor and Royal Enfield Continental are the only retro bikes that hit exactly the 48 hp.
More than 48 hp and suitable for A2
Triumph Motorcycles
Triumph Bonneville T120 / Black: 1,200 cm³ displacement, 80 PS, suitable for A2.
And with the models with more than 48 hp, A2 driver’s license holders do not have to do without. Motorcycles that do not have more than 95 hp may be throttled to 48 hp for the step driving license. This makes sense especially for all those who want to upgrade to the open driving license class A in the medium term. This category includes, for example, the retro bikes from Ducati, Moto Guzzi, many Triumphs and the Yamaha XSR 700.
More than 95 hp, no longer suitable for A2
In terms of performance over 95 hp and thus reserved for the open A driver’s license, the retro bikes are with more than 95 hp. This applies, for example, to the Triumph Thruxton RS with 105 PS as well as the Kawasaki Z 900 RS / Cafe with 112 PS, the Moto Morini Super Scrambler with 116 PS, the Yamaha XSR 900 with 119 PS and the Horex, which has 163 PS marked the top of this field. The standard version of the BMW R nineT models all roll out with 109 hp, but there is also a 95 hp version for A2 drivers, which can then be reduced to 48 hp with the A2 driver’s license.
BMW
BMW R nineT: 1,170 cm³ displacement, 109 hp. It is also available ex works with 95 hp and can then – reduced to 48 hp – be driven with an A2 driver’s license.
For many retro bike enthusiasts, however, in the end it will probably not be about the sheer performance, but about the right overall package, which also includes the optics.
Conclusion
Regardless of the category – be it price, appearance, displacement or performance – in the area of retro bikes there is a large selection for fans of motorcycles with a classic look. Almost everyone can probably find a model that meets almost all requirements.
