Presentation of the Ducati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition
Last two-cylinder Panigale
Content of
Ducati officially presented the Ducati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition in Laguna Seca. It is expected to be available from July 2017.
The model name D.ucati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition in the English dealer circular published only briefly and probably by mistake on the Internet makes you sit up and take notice. Ducati normally reserves the R for its racing versions (in the case of the Panigale it was the 1199), but the 1299 clearly stand for the well-known two-cylinder engine with 1285 cc.
The engine of the Ducati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition has the same key data as that of the super expensive and exclusive carbon version 1299 Superleggera. The performance of the L-Twin is given as 209.4 HP, a little less than in the Superleggera, which the circular justifies with a different measurement method. Technically, the two-cylinder only differs through cylinder liners made of steel instead of aluminum, as in the Superleggera, and a crankcase made of die-cast aluminum instead of sand casting.
Ducati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition weighs 190 kilos
According to the circular, the Ducati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition weighs 168 kilograms dry, and 190 kilograms when fully fueled – twelve kilograms more than the Superleggera, and about as much as the previous 1299 Panigale, which Ducati has not been offering since the end of 2016 because the engine has not been homologated according to the current Euro 4 standard.
Official presentation on July 7th in Laguna Seca
The new Ducati 1299 R Panigale Final Edition now complies with the Euro 4 standard and is also sold in Europe accordingly. The double exhaust shown briefly in the video is the same as the one carried by the Euro 4 approved Superleggera. The British leak memo lists the price as 34,995 British pounds, roughly the equivalent of 40,000 euros. Contrary to what was initially assumed, the new Panigale will not be limited to any number of units.
The official presentation of the new, last Ducati 1299 Panigale is for the Superbike World Championship race on July 7, 2017 in Laguna Seca. The future of Ducati Superbike will be a V4 engine.

Original text of the leaked dealer document:
1299 R Final Edition
Today we will begin a teasing campaign for the 1299 R Final Edition which we will then launch in full detail over the Laguna Seca Moto GP weekend, July 7-9th. However, in order to help you answer questions about this important new model, we have attached for you the technical specs and Q&A. In the meantime, here are some key bits of information:
Price: £ 34,995
Availability: We anticipate first deliveries will take place in September 2017.
Quantity available: While there is not a stated limit, orders will be supplied on a first come, first served basis and we anticipate there will quickly be a waiting list. We will update you regularly on the status of the list and anticipated delivery availability.
Key differences vs 1299 Superleggera; there are details in the attached Q&A, but for simplicity, we have also highlighted some key differences here:
Dry weight 1299 Panigale R Final Edition: 168 KG (1299 Superleggera: 156 KG)
Wet weight no fuel 1299 Panigale R Final Edition: 179 KG (1299 Superleggera: 167 KG)
Notch weight: 190 KG (1299 Superleggera: 178 KG)
Maximum Power: 209.4 HP @ 11,000 RPM (1299 Superleggera: 215 HP @ 11,000 RPM)
Peak Torque: 104.7 NM @ 9,000 RPM (1299 Superleggera: 108 NM @ 9,000 RPM)
The discrepancy in claimed power between the 1299 Superleggera and 1299 Panigale R Final Edition is due to a change in the method of power measurement (chassis dynamometer for the Superleggera, engine dynamometer for the Final Edition).
The key engine differences between the 1299 Panigale R FE and the 1299 Superleggera are the use of steel cylinder liners, steel fasteners and a die cast crank case in the 1299 Panigale R FE.
