Naked bikes are now rarities at the PS Tuner GP – this is especially true for street legal interpretations such as the Honda CB 1000 R from Motorrad-Weidner. The CB is ahead of the superbikes in at least one respect.

After numerous turns on souped-up superbikes at the PS Tuner GP, the Honda C.Driving a B 1000 R from Motorrad Weidner is a strange feeling – and at the same time very liberating. Finally a comfortable motorcycle! The wide Rizoma handlebars sit comfortably in the hands, the adjustable footrests – also from Rizoma – position the driver’s feet high but not too hard, the Honda seat is soft, just rather slippery.

The fully adjustable Ohlins shock absorber provides good feedback on the grip of the cold rear tire from the very first few meters. At the front, the ABS-assisted brake strengthens the pilot‘s confidence. A few corners later, the tires are up to temperature – time to put the engine to the test. The engine of the CB 1000 R accelerates very gently, pulls wonderfully linearly through the rev range in the usual Honda manner and continuously increases its power up to the rev limiter at almost 10,000 rpm. The CB could possibly generate even more power at higher speeds – with 128 hp, despite the Power Commander and Akrapovic muffler, it only achieves five hp more peak power than the production model. It looks better on the torque side: between 5500 rpm and 7500 rpm, the tuned Honda constantly presses over 100 Nm on the dyno roller and is therefore noticeably above the standard curve – that is certainly also fun on the country road. The lack of wind protection there, which makes life difficult for the CB pilot in the Hockenheimer Parabolika, would also be less of a problem.
Braking point. Straight into the iron, the ABS will fix it. The standard brake system, which Motorrad-Weidner boss Thomas Mirthes only added stylish Pazzo levers, decelerates properly without threading, but leaves the last bit of bite missing on the racetrack.

In the braking zone, it is also noticeable that the revised fork, which is tightly tuned for a street motorcycle, is somewhat insensitive and, especially on the bumps at the end of the Parabolika, transmits a lot of unrest to the driver.
Fold down, into the curve. With the lightest pull on the wide handlebars, the Weidner-CB 1000 R turns, follows the targeted line obediently and stays on course even when exiting a curve. A few laps later, the palms of the hands gradually begin to hurt. The metal handlebar grips look chic, but are too hard and not particularly driver-friendly. Back in the box, the eye catches the eye while massaging the palms of the hands on the airbrushed exposed rear wheel rim, framed by the Akrapovic muffler and Ohlins shock absorber, a real eye-catcher becomes. The design of the Weidner CB 1000 R is generally pleasing. The black and white "Checkered flag"-The pattern extends consistently from the rim to the side panels to the headlight mask. In addition to the engine tuning, mirrors and license plate holders also reveal that Mirthes actually designed his CB for country roads. Nevertheless, it is a welcome – and, above all, comfortable – change on the racetrack.
