An early Ducati Monster is undoubtedly a cult motorcycle. If that’s not enough, only one thing helps – lend a hand! Preferably like Jorn Schneider did with his monsters.

Everyone has a personal dream motorcycle. For many of us, the Ducati Monster of the first series came very close to this ideal. And that made them a coveted motorcycle. But what to do if this status is not enough and the cult bike is to be transformed into an adorable icon?

Then remodeling is the order of the day – without any compromises. Just like the gifted craftsman Jorn Schneider from near Stuttgart did. The industrial mechanic and industrial electronics technician spent two and a half years – albeit with a short break to build a house – creating his dream bike. The result was a wild, very individual mix of Ducati 916 and air-cooled Monster, which exactly corresponds to his ideas. Swabian meticulous he implemented his ideas, starting with the 916 frame, which was first blasted, then copper-plated and finally nickel-plated.

E.This was followed by an Ohlins FG 43 fork, as well as strut and steering damper from the Swedish company. The fork is in a self-milled aluminum bridge with triple clamps, the suspension strut is supported by a Kruger aluminum tubular swing arm, which is the first of its kind. The Schneider-Duc footwear is also exquisite: Dymag wheels with carbon rim rings and magnesium stars in the standard size 3.50 x 17 at the front and 5.50 x 17 at the rear.

Jorn revised the air-cooled 900 motor with a 1080 kit, reworked the heads, planted larger valves, eased the flywheel and donated an STM anti-hopping clutch. Anyone who thinks that Schneider is a bland parts swapper who assembles his motorcycle in a plug-and-play manner is very wrong. He adapted the injection system of the 916 PLC himself and adapted the intake trumpet and throttle valve body to the new environment in the air filter box. On the exhaust side, he reworked the system of the 916 and adapted it to the two-valve engine. A Power Commander takes care of the fine-tuning of the mixture preparation, while the Scorpion silencers dispose of the exhaust gases with a discreet babble.

Headlights and rear sections of the monsters are visually dominant. Both parts are handmade and accordingly unique. At the front, the lens headlights sit in an aluminum housing that was milled from solid and, with its asymmetrical design, is somewhat reminiscent of common BMW models. The rear, in turn, is typically Ducati. The foldable 916 hump was connected to the seat cover of the original Monster rear section and hides the battery and engine electronics under it.

Self-made I: WMD instrument in a minimalist ambience.

The large, self-made aluminum tank counteracts this rather massive appearance. The 19 liter fuel depot is based on the lower part of the original 916 tank and was built by hand. Both the rear and the tank have been given an elaborate metallic paintwork in a retro design and round off the harmonious overall impression of the Schneider monsters.

Good for those who can build their own dream bike. Because in terms of craftsmanship, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Schneider-Ducati Monster. On the contrary, we take our hats off to so much skill and creative will. And humbly bow to this handmade icon of an individualist.
