While the inexpensive home remedy completely removes the impurities, the expensive special cleaner disappoints across the board. In the wipe test on smooth ABS plastic, he only managed to remove half of the dirt. In the product safety category, too, there is a devaluation due to a lack of product description that does not comply with the EU labeling requirement, but rather with the USA standards. The frog vinegar cleaner is the miracle weapon of every housewife, and the acrylic cleaner from Rotweib is a polishing paste that is supposed to get rid of not only dirt, but also small scratches.

When testing the special motorcycle cleaners and household cleaning agents, Karcher laboratory manager Frank Ritscher supported us: “The product should be easy to clean and still be compatible with the material.” The expensive special materials already show their first weaknesses when checking the ingredients and correctly labeling them. The plastic cleaner from Meguiar’s lacks the correct EU markings and warnings. This leads to a devaluation in the product safety category. But it gets really interesting with the mechanical wipe test, with which the cleaning power is checked. There is the biggest surprise in the entire test: The inexpensive plastic cleaner from dm convinces with a very strong cleaning performance. But cleaning power alone is not enough. Material compatibility is also an important test point.

Since the ingredients are not rinsed out, the material can become soiled again more quickly after cleaning. Sensitive noses should avoid strong fragrances and allergenic substances like Celemene. These can not only irritate the skin and mucous membranes, but also impair concentration while driving. So it doesn’t hurt to take a look at the small print before buying.

German consumers are even in a consumer mood when it comes to cleaning agents. According to a study by the industry association for body care and detergents, he spends 211 euros a year on the little helpers. For comparison, the average European shell out just 173 euros. But our laboratory test makes it clear: Quality does not always have its price.
