They have nerve! A Suzuki Bandit 1250 for performance testing. A real iron heap, weighing 255 kilos and with 98 hp terribly lame. You can drive a chopper right away!

The route has its charm over time. Because the panels have a surprising amount of grip, and the small slides over the bitumen strips increase the sensitivity for the adhesive boundary.

Not only wheelie specialists benefit from the drive of the Suzuki. The Big Block always delivers at least 100 Nm torque just above idle speed and runs very cultivated.

Suitable for the racetrack?

Content of

The Suzuki Bandit 1250 S doesn’t belong on the racetrack? Right! That is why Rod took the Bandit out in the performance test on a discarded military airfield and tested the machine there for its racing suitability.

They have nerve! The guys from PS actually provide me with a Suzuki B.andit 1250 S for testing. A real iron heap, weighing 255 kilos and with 98 hp terribly lame. I can drive a chopper right away! And then this location: a discarded military airfield. What am I supposed to drive out of there? High speed stability? Great! There is a side route with a few curves. But it consists of armor plates, grouted with bitumen: bumpy road with a slip layer and turf border instead of sticky racing asphalt and curbs.

Wheelies work great

I can also play wonderfully on the wide airfield and pull wheelies to the horizon. This works excellently on the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S because of its long wheelbase. It is true that for such shows, she initially demands the use of the clutch, a lot of gas and a strong pull on the handlebars. I also have to keep the Suzi relatively close to the tipping point, because otherwise the massive bike lacks the punch for unicycling despite the high torque.

But this balancing act works very well, which simplifies loading through the aisles. The velvety smooth throttle response, the incredibly even power delivery and the full power at low and medium speeds play unicycle artists into the cards. The first indication of successful wheelies is involuntarily provided by the ABS warning lamp: After about 150 meters of the rear wheel, it begins to glow brightly in the cockpit of the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S because the system then exits.

Not only wheelie specialists benefit from the drive

But not only wheelie specialists benefit from the drive of the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S. The big block always delivers at least 100 Nm of torque shortly above idle speed and runs very cultivated. Between around 3000 rpm and almost 7000 rpm, it constantly sends over 110 Nm to the transmission, with a peak of 114 Nm. Wow, a real pound! So the Suzi can handle extremely lazy driving. The euphoria would be even greater if the Japanese hadn’t translated the gear for too long. The sixth gear goes up to a proud 275 km / h, the fifth still up to 250 km / h. Only fuel-stingers should benefit from this translation.

Although the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S always pressed more than the stated 98 hp during measurements – the top is 110 stallions – the chubby 1250 should still have a little more pressure in the boiler. Specialists such as SR Racing (www.sr-racing.de) or the company Vater (www.motorrad-vater.de) apparently tickle up to 147 ponies from the bandits. That would be exactly my collar size! Really nasty of the PS guys that they didn’t give me something like that to burn.

The four-cylinder in-line engine of the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S has an output of 98 hp.

I’ll rub that under their noses again. Until then, I could easily get used to the upright, comfortable seating position on the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S. In addition, a nicely wide, perfectly cranked handlebar and a comfortable knee angle. Am I getting old? Against this is the fact that the driver’s position is too inactive for me. And because of the soft, thickly padded seat, no popometer in the world can feel how much pressure the rear wheel can take when leaning.

I also miss the feedback from the front, the front wheel seems miles away. It’s a shame, but the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S doesn’t turn out to be a super sports car. You notice this at the latest when you anchor heavily, when it bumps over the concrete slabs with a tire squeak and a fork pumping at the stop.

A bit stubborn in the curves

In this situation, the ABS of the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S is worth its weight in gold. As a racer, I usually prefer to control the brakes myself. But under these circumstances – soft fork, little feeling for the front wheel – I like to let the system do the work. The ABS regulates comfortably late and reliably keeps the tire at the blocking limit – great! Only the stoppers could bite a little harder for my taste and also require less hand strength.

The Suzuki Bandit 1250 S is a bit stubborn when it comes to cornering. In addition to the weight, this is also due to the first Dunlop D 218 tires in the special specifications “T” (front) and “N” (rear). Although the skins weren’t exactly a stroke of luck, Suzuki still delivers the big naked with it to this day. Since it was released in 2007, there have been hardly any modifications anyway: different colors, a new cockpit, redesigned exhaust, that’s it. In addition, the Bandit is no longer completely naked since 2012, but only half-disguised as an S version. Their price also remained almost unchanged. At an unbeatable 8890 euros, it is actually an offer that you cannot refuse. Current rumors say that Suzuki might bring a new Bandit this year with old values, but modern-aggressive styling. Nothing against it, but I would prefer a test with a brand new GSX-R 1000 in a species-appropriate reserve – please!

Performance measurement and conclusion

BILLION

Wonderfully even power development with a lot of thump in the speed basement. However, from around 7500 rpm the big block only turns slowly.

When it dawned on me that I should test a Suzuki Bandit 1250 S, I thought at first that the PS guys would like to … When it became clear that things were getting serious, I checked the key data. They didn’t knock me off my stool either: 255 kilos, 98 hp, 225 km / h top speed – that sounds like a bad joke to racers. But if you don’t work on the last groove, you can enjoy the comfortable seating position and the powerful thrust of the big block from the lower speed limit.

In addition, the quad of the Suzuki Bandit 1250 S is very cultivated. After eight years of construction, however, it is the ultimate railway for a successor. A few birds tweeted in my ear that this should be presented in autumn. Dear PS: We are welcome to use it to heat the country road, but for my test please again something lighter with a lot of flavor!
