Test MZ 1000 SF special edition

The east … … turns red

No, this is not meant politically so shortly before the federal election.
It’s about a special series of the M.Z 1000 SF. The tank and insect-like front cladding “shine” in a dull red, ostensibly for the long term thanks to the highly scratch-resistant ceramic particles incorporated into the paint. In contrast, there are dark decorations and black anodized aluminum parts such as radiator trim, footrest supports, footrests and handlebars. In addition, the silencers and rims of the special edition are blackened and those with red rim rings are set off.
With the fully adjustable chassis, which perfectly manages the balancing act between stable and comfortable, and the very transparent biting brakes, everything stayed the same as before. In contrast, the in-line engine of the special edition with its anthracite-colored housing offers two options. Either the red chassis coalesces with the 113 hp engine of the standard SF, which is trimmed more for a decent torque curve, or with the engine of the 1000 S. This owes its full 117 hp to sharper camshafts and other software.
MOTORRAD drove the version with higher peak power, which, however, developed less torque over almost the entire speed range and vibrated heavily. In addition, the opposing pistons hack badly on the O-ring chain below 3000 revs. Up to 60 km / h you can take the fifth and
sixth gear completely forgotten. That is more like
something for heating, enjoyable rolling does not go with this variant.
The dynamic seating position with high footrests and wide handlebars, the superbly adhering Metzeler Sportecs and second place in the comparative test of MOTORRAD 8/2005 were more appealing. The price for the special edition is 9990 euros plus additional costs, 500 euros higher than the basic version. Will that be enough for an election victory for the Reds? tsr
