Triumph Rocket 3 R and GT
Prices for high-performance musclemen known
EICMA 2019
The Rocket III base models are called Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT. The R costs in Germany from 21,950 euros, for the GT it is 22,750 euros. Both plus 450 euros for utilities.
D.he Triumph Rocket 3 has been a real device since its launch in 2004. It’s hard to believe, but the second generation of the Rocket 3 that has now been presented sets the bar a whole lot higher – you can hardly make a muscle bike more powerful. The Triumph Rocket 3 is offered in an R version, which is intended to be used on power roadsters, as well as in a GT version that is more suitable for touring. Both bikes differ in seat height by 23 mm (R: 773 mm; GT: 750 mm) and in dry weight by 3 kilograms (R: 291 kg; GT: 294 kg). There are also deviations in the handlebars, the seat and the adjustable footrests, which are positioned significantly further forward on the GT.

Mega engine with 167 hp
The heart of the new Triumph Rocket 3 is a completely redesigned, longitudinally installed in-line three-cylinder. With a displacement of 2.5 liters, this is the largest motorcycle engine that has ever been mass-produced. But the British have not only increased the displacement, the performance data have also been increased significantly compared to the predecessor. The maximum power is 167 hp at 6,000 tours. The torque curve – one should actually speak of a high plateau with a small tip – peaks at 221 Nm at 4,000 rpm – here, too, the Rocket 3 is supposed to outshine all other production motorcycles. The British let their triplets celebrate up to 7,000 tours. The three-in-three exhaust system with two fat, short tailpipes on the right and one on the left as well as a powerful collector under the engine provides the right sound. It is shifted by a six-speed gearbox and servo clutch. The maintenance interval for the three-cylinder was set at 16,000 km. With the new ride-by-wire system, the Rocket now also offers four riding modes. Also on board are traction control, cornering ABS, hill start assist, cruise control, heated grips and a keyless go system.

New frame with single swing arm
But the British have also turned the engine periphery upside down. The propellant sits as a supporting element in a completely new aluminum frame. The card-driven rear wheel is guided by a single-sided swing arm and is sprung and dampened by a fully adjustable Showa shock absorber with 107 mm of travel. A 47 Showa USD fork with 120 mm suspension travel and adjustable rebound and compression is located in the triple clamps. When it comes to braking power, the British rely on the new Stylema radial brake calipers from Brembo, which bite into 320 discs. The rear supports a 300 disc. Road contact is provided by a 150/80 tire on a 17-inch rim at the front and a 240/50 tire on a 16-inch rim at the rear.
The Rocket pilot is supplied with information via a colored TFT instrument, which also bundles all connectivity features and connects other devices via Bluetooth. There is a USB socket under the bench for power supply. When it comes to lighting, the new Rocket 3 relies on LED technology all round. The tank holds 18 liters.
triumph
Of course, Triumph also offers a lot of accessories for the Rocket models. Among other things, a gearshift assistant, GoPro integration, a navigation system, a tire pressure monitor, a 20 liter softbag system, a magnetic tank bag and a small panel are available.
Prices and colors
The Rocket 3 R will be available in red and black, the GT version will be offered in black and a silver / gray combination with red stripes. The R will cost in Germany from 21,950 euros, the GT from 22,750 euros. Both plus 450 euros for utilities. The prices for Austria are to be announced shortly.
Conclusion
With the Rocket 3, Triumph has raised the bar for power cruisers even further and makes a clear statement, especially when it comes to displacement.
