“The weekends at the racetrack were simply missing. That’s when I started tweaking the Supersport IDM and then the T-Cup. Practically as a girl for everything. ”Ketchup and the T-Cup: That became a long-term connection, a matter of the heart. He is always there, he helps where he can – and actually he can always help. No wonder, as a master mechanic with over 20 years of racing experience. No wonder that the resourceful Swabian quickly found a solution to his own little problem. When the T-Challenge started in 2011, the ketchup took Susi aside, the hand-rolled one in the corner of her mouth and the joke in the neck. “You, Susi, we’re at the T-Cup anyway. Can I start the Challenge right away? ”What was Susi there but to say yes?

Since then, ketchup has been back in business – on all fronts. Because when the 2013 Challenge started with only eleven starters, his comeback threatened to be a short episode. That couldn’t be. So he became a part-time promoter, drummed as much as he could, on all channels. Daytona forum, Facebook, racing4fun – Ketchup promoted “his” challenge, promising a trophy to practically everyone. The result: In 2014 there were at times 40 triumphs on the grid – and ketchup mostly in the front third.

But it’s not just the sporting challenge that appeals to the old racing warrior? “It’s also the social skills.” Ketchup laughs. “Everyone helps everyone here, it’s a big family.” In the end, there are only two questions left. Why is Thomas Rothmund actually called ketchup? And where did he end up in Brno in the second run? First answer: because when he was young he had fiery red hair and a blonde friend named “Fries”. The Triumph T-Challenge is advertised for all reasonably sporty Triumphs built after 1990 and is of course dominated by the Triumph Daytona 675.

Naked or disguised, almost as standard or with largely open regulations: these are the differences between the T-Cup, which is held exclusively with Triumph Street Triples, and the T-Challenge, which is advertised for all reasonably sporty Triumphs built after 1990 and of course is dominated by the Daytona 675. Both series advertised by the MOTORRAD action team have one thing in common: Here everything from IDM candidates to hobby racers meets in a family atmosphere with a manageable budget.

For the T-Cup, which has been held since 2008, this means: For around 10,000 euros there is a complete package with the new Street Triple R and entry fee including a conversion kit (LSL parts package, Bodis exhaust system, Castrol lubricant package) and an X-Lite -Helms. Anyone who already has a Street Triple and only pays the entry fee and the conversion kit is there with 4190 euros, the pure entry fee is 1990 euros. In 2014, six events with twelve sprint races were driven on routes such as Hockenheim, Sachsenring, Brno, Most and Oschersleben. A total of five dates are planned for 2015, which will also include the booming T-Challenge (2014: four dates).

T-Challenge: In 2014 it was a jam-packed starter field with 35 fixed starters, which were regularly joined by an average of three guest starters. Everything that means triumph and can be driven reasonably professionally on a racetrack is driven. In addition to numerous Daytonas, this of course also applies to one or the other optimized Speed ​​Triple. As for the costs: Those who bet on tires from the series sponsor Bridgestone (as in the T-Cup) pay an entry fee of 1990 euros, everyone else comes with 2390 euros. The Bridgestone rubbers are available at special conditions, a Daytona discounts Triumph with 15 percent. And driving fun – that’s free for both cups.
