Voxan’s electric world records: Max Biaggi drives 408 km / h

Max Biaggi sets 11 records and wants more
The French manufacturer Voxan had attempted 12 speed records for electric motorcycles. Pilot Max Biaggi was able to enter 11 of them. More are to follow now.

The Monegasque Venturi Group celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2020. As a fitting bang, Venturi had the electric motorcycle brand Voxan set no fewer than 11 new world speed records on the runway of the French airport Châteauroux on October 30 and 31, 2020. The target was 12 record marks.

A total of three versions of the Voxan Wattman were available for the record attempts, which differ only in the extent of the cladding. The 367 hp electric drive technology is identical in each case. Ex-Grand Prix driver Max Biaggi was the pilot for all record drives.
The top speed was 408 km / h

On the morning of October 31st, Max Biaggi and the Voxan Wattman reached their primary goal, breaking the most coveted of the twelve world records they had set for that weekend. With a speed of 366.94 km / h, the team set a new record in the prestigious class “partly streamlined electric motorcycle over 300 kg” on. We drove over a mile with a flying start. They dethroned the Japanese Ryuji Tsuruta, who had reached a speed of 329 km / h with his Mobitec EV-02A. The route must be traveled in both directions, the record value is averaged from both trips. Biaggi even reached 408 km / h as the top speed, and the undisguised Watt team set a new record at 349.38 km / h over the same distance. The top speed here was 372 km / h.

In addition to the two records for the flying mile, the Voxan team has set nine other records:
– ¼ mile, flying start, partly streamlined: 394.45 km / h – no previous record
– ¼ mile, flying start, not streamlined: 357.19 km / h – no previous record
– 1 km, flying start, partly streamlined: 386.35 km / h – previous record: 329.31 km / h
– ¼ mile, standing start, not streamlined: 126.20 km / h – no previous record
– ¼ mile, standing start, partly streamlined: 127.30 km / h – previous record: 87.16 km / h
– 1 km, standing start, not streamlined: 185.56 km / h – no previous record
– 1 km, standing start, partly streamlined: 191.84 km / h – previous record: 122.48 km / h
– 1 mile, standing start, not streamlined: 222.82 km / h – no previous record
– 1 mile, standing start, partly streamlined: 225.01 km / h – no previous record
Spurred on by this series of records, the Monegasque wants to compete again in 2022 and set further records. The record runs were originally supposed to take place in July 2020 on the Bolivian salt lake Uyuni. However, the coronavirus thwarted these plans.
More records are expected
In June 2021, the French announced that they would continue their record hunt. The Voxan Wattman is currently being further optimized in order to prepare for another speed challenge in the under 300 kilo category this year. The machine will again be ridden by motorcycle world champion Max Biaggi. Obviously, Voxan is reacting to the advance of the British motorcycle manufacturer with the new record attempts White Motorcycle Concepts, who also set new records with its WMC250EV electric motorcycle announced.
Record attempt for the anniversary
The French motorcycle manufacturer Voxan was taken over by the Monegasque Venturi Group in 2010 and then gradually converted into an electric brand. The electric motorcycle Voxan Wattman, which was presented in 2013, comes from the pen of designer Sacha Lakic.

The potential series model, here still as a prototype, was presented for the first time in 2013.
The series version of the Voxan Wattman is powered by a 200 hp and 200 Nm electric motor. The Wattman should achieve 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds, 160 km / h in 5.9 seconds. The French do not specify a maximum speed. The range with the 12.8 kWh battery should be around 180 kilometers. A further developed version with a whopping 367 hp was used for the record attempts.
