The first version of the 502 TRK promised the arrival of Benelli in the medium-trail-road segment. For 2017, the Italian brand (with Chinese high perfusion) passes the projection stage to bring it to the realization. Between the presentation and the final version, little has changed: the production 502 TRK adopts better brakes, either radial piston calipers linked to the axial 2 pistons and a lower bubble. Lightweight and moderately motorized, the small TRK is an adventure solution for A2s. But will all of its “reasonable” solutions be sufficient to evolve in a highly qualitative and unavoidable category today? ???
If the reference is still the BMW R 1200 GS, there are other ways to taste the trail, and sometimes in a gutsy way. Benelli understood this long before anyone else and offered us big watts and almost nasty sport with the 1130 Tre-K. The name does not fall into oblivion and offers itself a new path with this imperious 502 TRK. A wiser version of the big brother? No, a whole new machine. Who does not claim the ardor of his ancestor and thinks of other segments: especially the A2 license.

It is obvious that the exhilaration of Pesaro is not the priority of the Chinese owners of the brand. Evidenced by the BN 302, Tornado 302, and this fresh representative of the mid-size trail category. A choice that can prove beneficial because there are not many in this division. The 502 TRK finds itself in direct confrontation with the Honda CB 500 X. And it uses the same weapons. The engine is a 500 cc parallel twin brand new from Benelli. Modern with its double ACT, liquid cooling, 4 valves per cylinder and injection, the engine fits perfectly into the A2 legislation: it delivers 47 horsepower at maximum speed of 8,500 rpm. The maximum torque has the savoir-vivre of not being perched too high: 4.6 mkg at 5000 rpm.

The backpackers of the ordinary will estimate a mill of average displacement, sufficient for a daily use with excursion of the weekend. It seems, however, well lost under this large fairing. The Benelli 502 TRK has aplomb, shoulders, desire … and copy. Inspiration by the Ducati 1200 Multistrada is evident, sprinkled with BMW GS. A muscular, threatening, spicy, sassy look, which will not be too much to stand out in the jungle of backpackers. An assumed design that will have to be defended by the services expected at the turn; the category is relentless.

The 502 silkscreened on the sides could make you smile in front of the 1200 swarms on the roads, dreaming of forests and sand; this serial version has transferred the encryption. By detailing a little, we realize that the TRK does not want to pretend. Its 20-liter tank, associated with the appetite of its average twin-cylinder, should offer good stages. Its frame as its swing arm are made of tubular steel section. A bubble of the correct size should offer clear protection; associated with small side deflectors, please! 50mm inverted fork, adjustable suspensions, 320mm discs, 6-speed gearbox, LED lighting, handguards and hydraulic clutch. A famous slogan would say “she has everything of a great”. Armed at 213 kilos dry, the Benelli 502 TRK will be able to attempt small difficulties with its 135 mm of suspension travel. As standard, it comes in 17 inches, with 120 and 160 wide tires.
