In 2012, the 899 benefited from some improvements intended to increase the qualitative effect. Little extras that enhance a beast of character. With its nasty face, its violent pencil stroke, and its engine full of muscle and passion, the Benelli TnT has no shortage of arguments to seduce fans of roadster fighters. The 1130 cm3 also has enough trunk to calm the malabars, and cause some cold sweats. Fortunately, for those who want this beautiful machine without wanting to walk with a bread of dynamite under the buttocks, the Italian manufacturer presents an 899 cm3 version. Less horsepower, less torque, but still 120 nags and nearly 8 mkg – enough to have fun on the handlebars, especially if the electronics preserve the “lively” character of the Benelli cylinders.
Key words of the 899: flatter the eye and the driver. Because if the 899 will not make the powder speak with as much violence as the 1130, the attributes of the “small” TnT will make it possible to profit without restraint from the dynamic performances of the beast. It’s simple: like plastic, the elements that make up the 899 are the same as on the big brother. A nice good frame as well as a tubular swing arm, an inverted fork of 50 mm in diameter, nice brake pads of 320 mm (but no radial calipers), an unchanged weight of 199 kilos, the same face carnivorous insect, and the Italian charm that will not fail to manifest itself.
A few details, however, will allow the more informed to make the difference. No need to open the engine to see the difference in piston stroke between the 2 models. Instead, take a tour of the owner. The dashboard has changed, in favor of a single meter pierced by a digital window. Simple, efficient, but perhaps too “basic” for a machine of this ilk. The engine management deserves to be worked on a little better, but the Italian boiler does its utmost to offer you potato on a large part of the tachometer..
Strong and beautiful in mouth, the 899 is a true Italian; she lets herself be approached, less easily tamed. Living with her is not as flexible as with a Japanese woman. The controls are firm, the practical aspects almost non-existent, the protection ridiculous, and in town, even if you frankly point out with its seductive physique and its sonorous pleasures, plan wide to turn around.
For a few euros more, you can choose the Sport version (pictured above). In addition to its more tangy color, the 899 S has a 2-part saddle (as on the 1130), a gold anodized fork (in bronze on the standard version), some carbon parts and improved suspensions..
With this 900 engine, Benelli returns to the displacement with which the first Tornado was launched and the renewal of the brand. Above all, it allows the small manufacturer to open up a larger market. TnT was hitherto reserved for a certain category of bank accounts; but just by lowering its engine capacity, this 899 is opening up to a wider audience.
