Opening up to a larger clientele often means more accessibility. Benelli understood it well: after having declined his TnT roadster in version 899, the small manufacturer does it again with a reduced displacement clone of his sporting trail.. Still 3 cylinders but 9 deciliter of cubing for the new Tre-K 899.
Question size, dimensions and design, it’s all the same. The 899 takes again the chassis and the mouth of the 1130 line for line. Apart from the displacement sticker, the differences are limited to a few details. Frame and swingarm painted in understated black instead of a crisp ripe red, removal of the small belly pan, a simpler dashboard, and a few stray gunslingers. The little Tre-k announces about 10 hp less and a few mkgs of evaporated. This will make the tri-leg less impressive but also more inclined to be affordable. The fat 1130 has quite a bit of character and is quick to quell your enthusiasm with its big potato. Its reduced variation should give you less cold sweat. Having said that, one should certainly not get bored with this engine. There is still 115 hp under the right hand, flexibility and the cheerful gniak of the Benelli boiler.
A bit less flattering than its big brother, the Tre-k 899 still offers you its beautiful tubular frame and swingarm assembly, a Marzocchi inverted fork equipped with Brembo braking with 4 pistons per caliper, an aggressive face that is noticeable at wish, punch, and all that for a price that drops below 10,000 euros. This makes you think more seriously about the idea of riding on a trail like no other.
