To power his DB7, Bimota had chosen the twin of the Ducati 1098, and had reworked it in its own way to offer more gniak than the cousins of Bologna. But the upturn was short-lived, as Ducat ‘quickly introduced the 1198, with more torque, more horsepower.. No problem, because you don’t buy a Bimota just for its engine. There is its chassis, its exceptional parts, the feeling of excellence distilled from one end of the machine to the other.
Obviously, the small Rimini firm was not going to sit idly by for long. Here is the replacement: the DB8 (the 8th Bimota powered by a Ducati engine). Superb, high-pitched, shivering, this Italian provokes the same thrill as the DB7. Normal: this is more of an evolution than a new bike. The heart installed in the bowels is therefore the 1198 Bolognese spewing 170 hp. The workshops will have been happy to modify the cartography a little to make it even more joyful, more bloody. But do not see in this new Bimota a pure pistarde. This DB8 is more geared towards sharing its sportiness. The rear frame has been reinforced to accommodate a passenger, and above all, this DB8 is more accessible. The price is significantly lowered, approaching 23,000 euros.
For that, no mystery – we had to save money (the purists will howl). Plastic replaced carbon for the fairing. The suspensions will be a little less efficient. But rest assured, the technical part remains a superb realization of pieces of aluminum cut in the mass, and even if its work will be a bit less rigorous, the damping entrusted to Extreme Tech for the rear and a beautiful inverted fork of 43 mm Marzocchi always delights the eye and the sensations; or could it be the magnificent Brembo 4-piston monobloc radial calipers ?!?
Design question, the DB8 does not differ from the DB7. Only the more sober color, the new exhaust and the big red 8 under the forced air intake vents will differentiate them. The scale will also be the judge, because the weight of the DB8 reaches 171 kg dry, a very low weight for a twin. In addition to sharing the same engine as its distant cousin Ducati 1198, it advertises exactly the same weight … but for a price that puts it in competition with an 1198 S Corse equipped with Ohlins suspensions. But the Bimota logo does not have the same flavor !
