Here is the first representative of a new family at BMW. The one whose motorcycles will be equipped with a twin cylinder … in line. Indeed, the new F 800 S, and the models that will follow, is equipped with a completely new engine with an original architecture for the Bavarian manufacturer..
This vertical twin, designed in collaboration with Bombardier-Rotax, is manufactured in the Austrian Rotax plant. The latter also manufactures Aprilia twins. We can therefore expect excellent performance from this 798 cc cubing berlinguot; without unwanted effects and vibrations because for mass balancing, the parallel twin uses a unique system in the production of motorcycles: an additional balancing rod compensates for the first and second order inertia forces and filters any unwanted vibration. The combustion chambers are directly inspired by those of the new K (1200 S and R) engine. Equipped with 4 valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 12: 1, the mill is advertised for a power of 85 hp.
85 hp and just a little over 180 kg, this is the sport BM version – more in the spirit of the R 1100 S than a hypersport. With the F 800 S, we will drive a sporty gentleman style. A machine to have fun, not to tear off bits of vibrator on the track. The fact remains that with 200 kg in running order, a perimeter frame apparently of the “pivotless” type (Honda structure present on the VFR and 900 CBR, made up of 2 side members without rear side plates) and the know-how. make BMW, the F 800 S should be pleasant and unperturbed.
The machine is fitted with rims with a design similar to that of the K 1200, a single-sided arm and a final transmission by toothed belt as on the F 650 CS Scarver, an ABS on request, and is also available in a version. 34 hp.
A sports car of medium displacement and not exclusive. From there to say that it is affordable … It is a BM !
