199 kilos, 130 hp and a shift assistant: The new BMW HP2 Sport is a genuine boxer racing motorcycle for country roads.

"High Performance", or "HP" for short, is what BMW calls its sportiest, puristic models. The HP2 Enduro and the HP2 Megamoto are now the third model to follow – the HP2 Sport, of course, with a boxer engine. She is quasi the road version of the race machine, with the BMW returned to the solo road racing sport this year and, among other things, played the 24-hour Le Mans.
Tightened R 1200 S
Technically, the BMW HP2 Sport is based on the BMW R 1200 S. Engine and chassis technologies were adapted from racing, including the DOHC cylinder head and the CFRP paneling parts. The modified engine of the R 1200 S with completely new cylinder heads provides propulsion: two overhead camshafts actuate the enlarged valves via rocker arms. Together with flow-optimized inlet and outlet ports, new forged pistons and connecting rods, 130 hp at 8750 rpm are now achieved, the maximum torque is 115 Newton meters (at 6000 rpm). The boxer can turn up to 9500 rpm.
Shift without using the clutch
The new stainless steel exhaust system is located under the engine. As a result, the machine is relatively narrow in the lower area, and the lean angle is correspondingly generous. The shift assistant also comes from racing, with which the six-speed gearbox with narrower gearing can be shifted without taking off the gas or operating the clutch. If the driver operates the shift lever, the electronic engine control reduces the ignition angle and suppresses the injection. This means that the drive train is "low-load" for changing gears – the clutch is virtually superfluous.
Switchable ABS
carbon offensive
Lightweight is the other big issue with the HP2 Sport. The self-supporting front fairing and the rear end, which is also self-supporting, are made of carbon. The ready-to-ride bike weighs only 199 kilograms, the dry weight is 178 kilograms. As a market introduction date, BMW gives danger the coming year. The price has not been mentioned yet, but should be hearty. For example, the HP2 Megamoto costs about 18 000 euros.

  1. way too expensive
Beautiful motorcycle, but for the Otto normal driver too expensive. Especially since it from the competition … Also beautiful and more powerful motorcycles for less money gives. I can find BMW again the church in the village and find the prices for normalcy. German recruitment or from!

  2. Appropriate

Hi Tuono, if you look closely at this moto, you know why this part must be expensive. If the part would be red and Ducati would be on it, there would be no discussion about the price. You can not take the dry corner data and compare with other motos. It’s the subtleties that define the moto.

the HP2 Sport will have a hard time

  3. What problems ?
I’ve been driving my R12S for 14,000 km without any problems. Just like my old R11S since 45 tkm. I’m looking forward to my HP Sport OLLI

  4. whether that’s going well…
After massive problems with the R1200S, I hope that all errors have been eliminated from this precious part. The boxer engine concept is taken to the extreme with speeds of over 9000 rpm. Drive one yourself "old" R 1100S and will definitely test drive this new part.
