High-quality add-on parts, plenty of brainpower and the penchant for perfection formed the BMW ProductionRacer PR 12 from the tuning company TGP. Sounds expensive, it is. But ultimately its creator has an ambitious goal.
Zare only 600s hovering around here? It almost seems like that, because the Thousands effortlessly sniff one opponent after the other: straighten the bike after the curve, aim at the competition, turn the gas to the limit and bang, pull past! How is that possible? Of course, other superbikes are also chasing the ring during this race training in Mugello / Italy. The answer comes from Bavaria and is called PR 12.
BMW ProductionRacer PR 12 from TGP in the track test
Superbike based on the S 1000 RR
With five liters of fuel, the PR 12 weighs only 157 kilos
In contrast to the unfathomable depths of the spring elements, the completely redesigned deflection on the spring strut can be seen with the naked eye. “We have made many attempts with different levers and tension struts for the linkage and deflection,” says Nutzl. "Now the damper builds up its force in a nice linear fashion." Further measures on the chassis: higher and further forward mounted swing arm, more caster thanks to adjustable self-made fork bridges, slightly raised level. In combination with the seat cushion, which is 15 millimeters higher, the center of gravity moves a little further up, which benefits handling.
In fact, the PR 12 storms swiftly and precisely through the numerous and tricky combinations of corners such as those of Luco and Poggio Secco (corners two and three) or Scarperia and Palagio (ten and eleven). The magnesium wheels, specially made by Marchesini, bear a certain share of this lightness. In addition, the racer itself arrows through fast arcs, such as the famous Arrabbiata one and two, ultra stable. Only when accelerating out of the target curve does the bike twitch with the handlebars when the pilot shoots at full throttle over the small crest at the beginning of the start / finish straight. Countermeasure: Shift your weight forward and stand in the notches. If you don’t do that, the PR 12 will noticeably rock. “The chassis is tailored to me,” explains Vorteill. “The machine stays quiet with me. I am a little heavier than you and I ride hard springs accordingly ”. That sounds plausible. Nevertheless, a look at the weight shows where the slight nervousness at this point could also come from. With five liters of fuel, according to the TGP, the superbike should weigh just 157 kilos – an absolute top value! We can’t check the information on this date, but we don’t doubt it for a second due to the incredible dynamics.

Front and rear provide precise information
The feedback from PR 12 is above all doubt. The front and rear provide precise information about what the asphalt has to offer. The seat cushion, which is firm but not too hard, also contributes to this. In addition, the extremely narrow bench facilitates the pilot’s gymnastics exercises when changing direction. And the brakes? Hammer! The pump and saddles are from Brembo and are identical in construction to most MotoGP bikes. The stoppers decelerate brutally, respond extremely precisely, provide complete transparency and are invincible – a dream made of milled metal! In addition, the driver can adjust the force / distance ratio of the brake pump exactly to his preferences.
He can also adapt the PR 12 in other ways. With the three versions V01 to V03, the PR 12 offers different chassis components as well as different engine power variants. The following applies here as there: the higher the number, the more complex the tuning. Engine one should produce almost 200 hp, according to Vorteill, number two, 205, and the third version, up to 213 stallions should gallop. Each measured at the transmission output on a special engine test bench. The power is roughly equivalent to the rear wheel power on conventional roller dynamometers, which means an additional five to eight horsepower on the crankshaft. We cannot check the performance data from TGP either, but we also consider them to be correct.
The crux of the PR 12 is its price
But what counts more than maximum output is how the drive serves its punch. And that simply takes your breath away with the test bike – a mixture of V03 chassis and V02 engine. Even at medium speeds, the PR 12 pushes hard and continues to fire so brutally that the pilot literally pulls his arms out. The superbike is never treacherous, but powers wonderfully evenly and with excellent control through the rev range. “The engine control comes from the next generation of the S 1000 RR, and we invested a lot of time in setting it up. Thanks to the very close cooperation with the BMW plant, we were able to perfectly coordinate all of the electronics, ”says Orte enthusiastically. “I am very grateful to the former BMW racing director Berti Hauser, his boys and the development department. Without them I would not have been able to realize the project. Ultimately, we benefit from each other. ”Weaknesses of PR 12? Only this: Whoever is overtaken on it has no excuse!
You could talk or write a lot more about the bike. But that would fill an entire book and, unfortunately, is beyond the scope of this story. So we come to the real crux of the PR 12, its price. The range extends from 47,500 to 98,000 euros. TGP also offers professional racing teams a package including a leasing engine from the Superbike World Championship. Oh man, it must be pretty tough to beat the bike around the course with 235 rear wheel horsepower! But this experience is probably reserved for professionals only, which Vorteill indirectly confirms: "I would love to use the PR 12 as a CRT bike in MotoGP." Wow! From the fans’ point of view, taking part in a BMW factory would be a dream, especially after leaving the Superbike World Cup. And a clear commitment to sport.
