The R 1100 RT was undoubtedly one of BMW’s most prodigious road cars. The 1150 which replaces it drives the point home for the generalized disgust of its competitors. The silhouette changes both little and a lot: only the mudguard and the optics (now double with integrated fog lights) change, but this new face gives more presence and confidence to the BM. Some alterations to the seat, still adjustable in height, and a new very effective braking but the use of which requires some learning. Where the German is evolving a lot, it is in terms of motorization. The Boxer gains 45 cm3, 5 hp, 0.5 mkg, as well as an additional report (overdrive type) for the box. This 6th gear makes it possible to lower the speed on the motorway and to preserve mechanics and fuel consumption..
With its new twin 1150, the RT improves all its lap times compared to its predecessor. – Especially the last version with the double ignition: the flat is felt and the engine is more flexible.
The gearbox is also less steep, but there are still some passages in neutral which are there in an untimely way (user opinion) -.
The protection offered is royal, the bags (standard) very well integrated. All of this comes at a price, of course, especially since the Bavarian machines have never been donated. But the 16,000 euros it represents is a safe investment.
