BMW S 1000 RR model year 2015: stronger, lighter and not too fast

BMW has significantly increased its S 1000 RR after five years of production for the 2015 model year. For Intermot in Cologne, Bayern reveal a strengthened super athlete who has swaged and even never drives too fast.

Ironically, the purebred athlete S 1000 RR should never be too fast. Therefore, BMW gives the vintage 2015 as the first superbike at all an electronic temporal control that ensures compliance with each speed limitation. Apart from that, BMW has upgraded the one-liter four-cylinder in the usual categories with the new model year: an increase of six horsepower now results in 146 kW/199 hp, the maximum torque has increased by 1 to 113 Nm. Market launch will be in the first half of 2015. Whether the previous price of 16.950 euros increased as a result, is not yet certain.

The catalog of measures behind the increased performance includes, among other things: redesign of the cylinder heads, a new intake camshaft, lighter intake valves and optimization of the airbox and intake ports. In order to tackle the all-important Supersport criterion "power-to-weight ratio" from two sides, the engineers also fine-tuned the weight. The result is a minus of 4 kg adjusted for equipment, because the new S 1000 RR now weighs 204 kg with a full tank including race ABS. A lighter, performance-enhancing and torque-enhancing exhaust system alone contributed 3 kg savings.

New chassis geometry

A new frame structure and chassis geometry should increase the precision of the superbike. For the 2015 vintage, the steering head angle, trail and wheelbase as well as the swingarm pivot have been optimized again. This should also have increased the lean angle again. The further developed, electronically controlled chassis (“Dynamic Damping Control”, DDC) from the in-house tuned “High Performance” variant HP4 is now available as an option ex works for the S 1000 RR.

From rain to sports

The three riding modes "Rain", "Sport" and "Race" can be selected as standard with the new RR. "Slick" and "User" can be added for an extra charge, with which the dedicated racing biker can finally blow the hunt for ever faster lap times. This accessory package also includes a launch control for the best possible race starts and a pit lane limiter for speed limits in the pit lane. In addition, the now available HP shift assistant enables lightning-fast shifting up and down without a clutch – all features that are clearly designed for use on the race track, and since the superbike premiered five years ago, this has increasingly come to the fore compared to public roads using the S 1000 RR.

A more dynamic design language and newly placed and shaped headlights ensure a noticeably different, more aggressive look so that the "new" is clearly recognizable. This is to be underlined by a new color concept with three different designs.

  1. Thanks…
…I use the good old rubber cow, for example an R90S. I then drive away from this lump at any time, because I can drive as fast as I want with it. However, you have to be able to drive properly with such a part.
