The K 1600 series not only represents the pinnacle of road riding at BMW, but also a high-ranking definition in the motorcycling world. The K 1600 B variant is clearly eyeing the side of the States with its Bagger definition, very popular there. It’s time to see bigger, further for her. A force of luggage and additional comfort predestines it to cross the biggest highways. This BMW K 1600 could not be better named: Grand America.
The K 1600 B is distinguished by a receding line at the level of its stern. The design is preserved but the rear will no longer be airy because a top case is installed on board. No need to travel light, you can take something to extend your stay. This hold is equipped with a brake light in order to improve the visibility of the road. This perfectly complements the luminous signage installed in the suitcases.
The 6-cylinder in-line remains the same piece of vigor and nobility as on the other K 1600. A copious 160 horsepower and 17.8 mkg are there to ensure all the driving wishes. In the Grand America, it is not its strength but its momentum that is curtailed. BM limited the maximum speed to 162 km / h.
We’re not looking for speed or performance aboard a bagger, tapered or chunky. We want cruising. The K 1600 Grand America wants you to enjoy it in a beautiful way, with a semi-active ESA Dynamic suspension and Riding Modes, protected by a larger electrically adjustable windshield, and taking advantage of cruise control, heated grips and saddles, a full sound system, reverse gear, and a series of electronic guardrails. Some of these include ABS Pro and DTC Traction Control.
The BM fleet is now complete: two high standing GTs for the old continent; and two baggers for the new one. Since 2019, the saddle height has lost 30 mm, a standard of 750 mm. Suddenly, the low saddle option no longer exists. The ‘Hill Start Control Pro’ is now part of the standard equipment, and there is an optional amplified speaker system in the top case.
2021 adds layer of elements, namely tire pressure control, daytime running lights and adaptive cornering headlight.
