Nobody expected him. It wasn’t planned for so soon, but it will arrive soon: the new BMW R 1200 ST. Announced as the replacement of the R 1150 RS, it will be the route lieutenant of the flagship R 1200 RT, presented at the same time as it. Both sporty and road model, the ST has a featherweight of around 230 kg with full fuel. The general appearance is slimmer, more dynamic, with the exception of the enormous optical unit. Frankly, that breaks the line, but the efficiency of the lighting must be impressive. It will also be powered by the new twin 1170 cm3 developing in this configuration the power of 110 hp. The protection will not be as important as on the R 1200 RT, BM having wanted it more sporty in its definition. Telelever suspension at the front and new Paralever at the rear, more torque and power, lightness, the ST could conquer the public that the 1150 RS did not find. Its chic and sporty appearance and its price (more affordable than the RT) will make it a team-mate of choice for the new R 1200 RT.
It is not for nothing that this new BM is called ST – the abbreviation of Sport Tourisme. It is undeniable that this machine gives off a feeling that inevitably tends towards fun, fast and playful driving. The tourism trend is more subtle. These are the attributes of the BM philosophy that underline it, such as the screen, the handlebars and the manually adjustable saddle. Ergonomic research combined with the technical and stylistic audacity of the Bavarian manufacturer will make this R 1200 ST one of the most interesting models in the range..
As always with Munich, the list of options allows you to make a motorcycle “à la carte”; as long as you are ready to inflate the check. For those interested, take a look at the R 1200 RT – the options are pretty much the same.

The horizon is not so distant when the 1200 ST rushes there. The only concern that can be encountered is the radar scarecrow which attracts the same sympathy as the flagship of this BM. A bit like the VFR, the Behème lends itself readily to a good winding on winding course. Pleasant to drive, the ST manages to make you forget its “quirky” face.
Maybe it’s an identity problem, but recent soprt-GTs seem to be having a hard time finding each other. The VFR V-tec and the Futura pay the price for their daring and angular design, the Sprint ST 1050 displays a clear sport trend … not easy to have your ass between two chairs. And it is not certain that a frank and strange aesthetic originality brings success to the R 1200 ST. It is however a very good machine, which seduces by its behavior. Do you remember that girl in college, not very pretty?!? She was a great friend, but no one wanted to date her. Wrongly…?
