The forces involved
The 78th Bol d’Or this weekend – the last at Magny-Cours, where we wait before its – will kick off the endurance world championship which will take place this year on .
A new turning point for Erwan Nigon |
After two years in the German Superbike Championship in 2012 and 2013 (season shortened by injury), like Vincent Philippe, Erwan Nigon is joining SERT this year. The Auvergnat pilot feels "physically and mentally sharpened, particularly fit and attacking". His adaptation to the GSX-R 1000 and Dunlop tires went well, the Auvergne rider explaining that he "a very good feeling and very good sensations: I manage to place the bike where I want and do what I want with it, I have it perfectly in hand and I have fun! I had to adapt and my driving, now it’s done and I’m enjoying myself". Regarding competition, Erwan Nigon acknowledges that "it will be rough" But "at the same time, we know it because finally there are the same number of motorcycles as the other years, BMW being replaced by Honda. It’s not easy to say more before the start of the championship, but we expect it to be tight". |
With its 13 world titles, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) is naturally a favorite in the championship, with this year alongside Vincent Philippe and Anthony Delhalle two pilots from, Damian Cudlin and Erwan Nigon (see opposite).
"This Bol 2014, at SERT we really want to succeed for this goodbye to Magny-Cours "", slips Dominique Meliand, team manager of SERT. Because if"for the youngest of you it may not cause you much, for us the oldest it is the return to a grandiose circuit after 15 years"…
For the victory at the Bol, the Team SRC Kawasaki – which only competes – will try to continue its streak of five consecutive victories at the Bol d’Or and the 24 Hours of Le Mans: riding the official ZX10R, Gregory Leblanc and Matthieu Lagrive should be associated with Fabien Foret, World Supersport champion, with Nicolas Salchaud as a replacement driver.
Among the challengers, both for the victory at the Bol d’Or and for the 2014 world title, the 2013 vice-champion recruited the best French Supersport drivers: Mathieu Gines and Lucas Mahias join Kenny Foray and David Checa, who has celebrated its 34th birthday on Sunday and this year is launching a new logo (opposite).
The other official Yamaha, that of the Monster Energy Yamaha YART shod in 2014 by Pirelli, will be at the start with Igor Jerman, Wayne Maxwell, Australian Superbike champion in 2013 and his compatriot Rick Olson. Not to mention Team R2CL, a private team (Suzuki-Dunlop) which has growing ambitions after confirming a team as efficient as it is media-friendly with Guy Martin, Gwen Giabbani and Gareth Jones.
It will also be necessary to follow closely the (Dunlop) with Sebastien Gimbert, Julien da Costa and Freddy Foray on the handlebars of his CBR1000RR.
Points for the best animators of the race
The Bolliger Team Switzerland (Kawasaki-Pirelli) can also surprise top teams, just like the Maco Racing Team (Yamaha-Dunlop), Honda National Motos (which joins the group of permanent teams), the (Kawasaki-Dunlop) or the Team Motors Events April Moto (Suzuki-Dunlop), winner of the 2013 FIM World Cup, which this year moves to EWC.
In Superstock, the fight for victory also promises to be very open with the BMW of the German Penz13 (Pirelli), winner in 2012, which will face (Kawasaki-Dunlop), winner of the FIM World Cup from 2008 to 2010 , who aligns this year Alexander Cudlin, Nina Prinz and Mashel Al Naimi.
The Bol d’Or 2014 will also be an opportunity to follow one of the 2014 regulatory novelties: 10 to 1 points will be awarded to the top ten in the intermediate rankings after 8 hours and 16 hours of racing, in order to reward the best animators. on long distance races.
