The Z750 passes the 40,000 French sales milestone
For the fifth consecutive year, the Z750 has left nothing but crumbs to its rivals on the French market: at its peak, the Zed has just exceeded the 40,000 sales mark! A success on which the late Yamaha FZ8 is openly eyeing…
A true stroke of genius for the Greens, the Kawasaki Z750 sold more than 6,000 units in France in 2009, far ahead of its little sister ER-6n (5,426 units), the Yamaha XJ6 (4,614) and the stainless Suzuki Bandit 650 (3,650 units).
This success has enabled Akashi’s "Seven and a half" to cross the enviable 40,000 sales mark since its arrival in France in November 2003! More alive than a 600, well finished and playful, the "Zed" combines the strengths and knows no other real faults than an embarrassing overweight on the attack, a spartan comfort and a perfectible cushioning (read our).
The green also plays with its sharp lines and its ultra competitive price (7,499 euros and 7,999 euros with ABS) to make the roadster enthusiast salivate, but it is especially on the side of its intermediate displacement that combines torque , length and character that it is necessary to seek the bases of its status of bestseller.
A mix that is both simple and proven (commonly used in the past, the 750 cc was sacrificed on the altar of competition) and yet oh so relevant! So much so that the lack of response in this juicy niche has regularly been the subject of questions in our columns…
First to react (seven years after the appearance of the Zak ‘!), Yamaha has however just unveiled a serious alternative called FZ8 (read our) which relies heavily on the finery of its big sister FZ1 to try to make the brakes to that devil from Z750.
Following the path cleared by the Kawasaki – deflated sports mechanics and contained prices although higher than those of its rival (7,999 euros in launch price and 8,399 euros thereafter), the Yamaha FZ8 adds the "sport-comfort" string to its bow to try to dislodge the Z750 from commercial catwalks. Will the orientation prove sufficiently convincing to call into question the 50,000 sales target targeted by Kawasaki Motor France? ?
Only a Site duel will obviously be able to decide! Patience: the two Japanese are already booked and the outcome of this eagerly awaited match will be revealed shortly… Stay tuned !
