Cagiva 650 RAPTOR 2001

Menus

Cagiva, proud of his Raptor 1000, declines his bubbling roadster in 650 version. The aesthetics are surprisingly similar. Apart from the technical sheets, nothing seems to differentiate the small from the large. Via this mini-Raptor, Cagiva does not hide its claims: to eat the Monster 600 and the SV. To achieve this result, the turbulent Italian borrows its engine from the Suzuki factory. The excellent twin receives a specific treatment: different carburetion, 19 L air box (1 more than the SV), double exhausts, and its case is very interesting. A solid perimeter trellis frame with a nice inverted fork 43mm in diameter. Braking, powerful but lacking in bite, is entrusted to Brembo. 10 kg heavier than the SV, the Raptor’s acceleration is similar to the stopwatch, and the sensations favored by the adoption of a shortened gear ratio. The flexibility is always there and the boiler is unleashed past 6000 revs. The machine is particularly precise and very stable. The agility may seem inferior to that of a Monster but is nonetheless of good quality. A tad tilted forward, the pilot will be comfortable but not the passenger. Its place was not in the design priorities.

Cagiva offers an excellent machine, with a playful, efficient and safe behavior. However, against the SV, the game is not won. The unique design of the motorcycle in places can decide a lot. It will be available in V-Raptor, with its original oh so aggressive fork crown, or in Naked..

It is very pretty, but it is slow to arrive in the hexagon. Hopefully it finally arrives in 2005. In this case, it will be a slightly modified version, mainly at the engine level. The Raptor will always borrow from Suzuki the twin of the SV 650 but in its more recent version and injection. A little effort has been made at the level of the finish, a passenger handle is grafted to the end of the rear of the Italian and a small nose screen brings the little extra touch that goes well.
