From naked bikes to rally robbers
A Portuguese customizer presented this rally conversion of a Honda CB 650 R as part of the Honda Garage Dreams custom competition.
F.Honda Wingmotor from Lisbon, Portugal, is responsible for this CB 650 R conversion. As the name suggests, it’s a rally take on the street motorcycle. The conversion was carried out on the occasion of the competition "Honda Garage Dreams Custom" realized a custom bike competition launched by Honda Motor Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Last year the customizers devoted themselves to a CB 1000 R, in 2020 it was the turn of the popular mid-range CB 650 R bike.

Whether the 649 cc in-line four-cylinder feels comfortable off-road and how the driver can cope with a good 200 kilograms of motorcycle under his feet, we’d rather leave that out at this point. But we don’t want to withhold from you what the crazy Portuguese from Honda Wingmotor have put on the wheels: The Honda CB 650 R Rally has Continental TKC 80 tires strapped onto the 17-inch wheels. The front is dominated by a complete rally tower for navigation, including a road book. The neo-cafe look of the production version of the CB 650 R gives way to the dirt bike look. The Honda CB 650 R Rally from Honda Wingmotor pays homage to Paulo Gonçalves. The longtime Honda driver died during this year’s Dakar Rally. He fell badly on the seventh stage from Riyadh to Wadi al-Dawasi and succumbed to his injuries. His picture adorns the tank of the CB 650 R Rally.
Reference to Honda Dakar victory
A picture of a wreath with the note is emblazoned on the pillion cover "Vencedor 2020" (Eng .: winner), with which Honda Wingmotor points to Honda’s victory in the Dakar Rally 2020. The American Ricky Brabec started this year’s Dakar Rally with a CRF 450 rally and clinched the first victory for Honda in over 30 years.
Off-road capability or not – the Honda CB 650 R Rally definitely looks good. And with the reference to Paulo Gonçalves and Ricky Brabec, there is more to it than a pure rally conversion of the naked bike.
