Powerful (82 hp) and modern for the time with its 903 cc 4-cylinder with double overhead camshaft and its transmission by cascading pinions, the Z1 made an impression: when it came out, it was a question of the fastest production bike with a good 200 km / h peak! A damn good ad for Kawasaki, which had been overtaken in the "big-4-legged" segment by Honda four years earlier …
Originally, the Greens’ project revolved around a new four-cylinder four-stroke engine with a displacement of 750 cc … But the Japanese engineers obviously had to review their copy when Honda presented – to the surprise general – the CB750 Four in 1968! Taken aback, Kawasaki decided to put the work back on the job, and increase the displacement of its Z1 to make it the benchmark for four-cylinders..

The Greens have planned a whole series of events to celebrate the 40 years of the Z1, including an exhibition at the Cologne Motorcycle Show next October.
"Kawasaki wants to celebrate 40 years of our Z series alongside past, current and future owners," said Mr. Yasushi Kawakami, Managing Director of Kawasaki Europe. "With such a loyal following, we are sure that there will be considerable excitement for this important anniversary.".
