When the wind blows hot, leaving a few particles of sand in your hair and thoughts, you start dreaming of wide horizons, big wheels, trails to conquer. Problem: a motorcycle cut out for the raid, it often cubs 1.2 liters, it shakes 2 large pistons, it is 250 kg in the arms, and you need a check corresponding to one year of minimum wage. Fortunately, there is a manufacturer who does not dismantle and dares to offer the same concept in an unprecedented displacement. Derdi has thus profoundly modified his 125 Terra to make it a real small rally-raid motorcycle: the Terra Adventure.
Everything is there and nothing is missing: the adventurer profile, a large 21 ‘front wheel, spoked rims, a substantial saddle height and a high suspension travel, suitcases and an optional aluminum top-case, a high screen, an aluminum belly pan, a luggage carrier, tread tires and hand guards; in addition, the template of the machine is plumb. We are far from the basic 125 that we carry under the arm. With a good 41mm fork and 300mm brake disc, the front end of this 125 has not been overlooked. Neither the engine, which shows vigor at mid-range, and good health at the top of the tachometer. Of course, with its 15 horsepower, it cannot compete with the machines of its adventurer segment, all armored with cm3 and torque. Can we judge on this? Absolutely not, especially for a 136 kg machine, almost twice as light as the R 1200 GS Adventure, flagship of the category. Both mono and machine are at ease in the city, and not lazy on the road. The comfort is more than appreciable, in large part thanks to the flexible suspensions and the welcoming saddle.
Feeling the stony and sandy track, the Terra Adventure makes you want to try paths and more if affinities. An excursion limited by the profile of the tires; we will be able to ride the trails between the fields but that will not go until the enduro stage. In addition, the 11-liter tank will not allow you to go to the end of the world, although the consumption is more than reasonable.
Derbi did very well to set us a 125 to the profile of Benjamin Gates. At ease in the urban as in the off-road (she even prefers it), the Terra Adventure offers us the same scent as some stars (R 1200 GS, 990 Adventure, 660 Tenere, etc …) for a canon rate. Financially, a 4000 euro banknote against the spirit of the dunes and the rocks, that’s not kidding.
