Driving report Benelli TreK 1130
3 sound dimensions
After the super sports car Tornado and the uncompromising naked bike TnT, the touring TreK 1130 opens the third dimension in the Benelli model range.
Anyone looking for extravagance and crisp sportiness will find what they are looking for at Benelli. So far, you only had to look around at the Yamaha TDM 900, Ducati Multistrada and the like for a comfortable all-rounder with a dash of sport for coping with everyday life without complaint or for a big tour for two.
The TreK should now have an important say in this group. The prerequisites for this are not bad. Regardless of the performance level, the 1130 cm3 triple has so far been quite convincing. And the TnT shows that people in Pesaro know how to build chassis.
The TreK passed the first sound test with flying colors. She also masters this wonderful composition of mechanical grinding, animal rattle and subliminally aggressive growl, although she raises her voice a little more discreetly thanks to the new exhaust system with shorter manifolds and larger rear silencer. Mechanically, it seems a tad smoother than Tornado and TnT.
The TreK is also smooth on the first few kilometers. The relaxed sitting position with the high, strongly cranked, conical aluminum handlebar, the crisp, firm seat and the comfortably placed feet, plus a well-protecting, three-way height-adjustable disc and the treble hook that spontaneously hangs on the gas? you feel in good hands right from the start, ready for great deeds. Or in this case to board the small, winding country roads in the hinterland of Pesaro.
Without much effort, the trek falls from one incline to the next and scurries playfully over the coastal roads. And she masters it, sprinting out of corners at low revs and with a decent, easily controllable thrust. Under 3500 rpm not with the grim vehemence of a TnT. But above that, in the middle speed range, which is important on the country road, the all-rounder properly inflates its nostrils. Turns powerfully and evenly up to over 8000 rpm before the vigor slowly subsides again.
Although the 137 hp TnT drive has been tamed a bit with new camshafts and adapted mapping, with 125 hp it always has enough pressure. In terms of throttle response and smoothness, the TreK has slight advantages over the TnT ?? despite the odd bumpy ride that it suffered because the injection system was not set up to the final level.
Fast handling, relaxed seating position, powerful engine, that increases the desire to gasp. Especially since the non-adjustable Marzocchi fork works sensitively and the cleanly metered Brembo pliers reliably catch the trek again. However, in the best family tradition, the new model reacts to late, but all the more courageous anchoring and additional use of the powerfully biting rear brake with hearty rear wheel stamping. The tight Sachs shock absorber, which can only be adjusted in preload and rebound, according to Benelli, did not yet correspond to the standard setup.
By the time the first treks are at the dealerships in November, they want to go to
As with mapping, the shock absorber still lends a hand. Then the in-house range of accessories should also be complete, which is currently limited to the case set and navigation system.
