The series will so on be complete: First came the Enduro R 1200 GS. Then the R 1200 RT tourer rolled off the assembly line. Now BMW is adding the R 1200 ST. A first driving impression of the sports tourer of the new boxer generation.

Boxer generation. And now, just a few weeks later, the next variant is slipped into the Bayern boxer fan: the successor to the R 1150 RS, the R 1200 ST. She appears quietly. From March 12th it will be available at BMW dealerships starting at 12,500 euros.

For the chassis, BMW used the Telelever of the R 1200 GS, but with it
spring travel reduced to 110 millimeters. Its lightweight cardan shaft with Evo Paralever is also used in the ST, albeit slightly modified to accommodate the wider 180 mm tire. As in the GS, that takes care of the Sport Tourer
Suspension strut with travel-dependent damping for progressive suspension that is based on
the sometimes rather miserable French country roads works perfectly. The suspension setup tends to be between sufficiently comfortable and pleasantly firm. The spring elements respond sensitively. A successful mix to be able to drive the sports tourer sportily or to let it glide relaxed.
The brakes on the R 1200 ST also relax. The partially integrated composite system with ABS and brake booster installed in the test machine is brutal when it comes down to it, but can now be dosed well when driving slowly.
So the bottom line is a very positive first impression. In any case, BMW’s reluctance cannot be due to the qualities of the ST.
