The first super sports car with 800 cubic capacity

Content of

With the MV Agusta F3 800, for the first time a bike with 800 cubic meters is storming the ranks of super athletes. The Italians promise high performance, low weight and are even declaring war on superbikes.

Meanwhile, there is a colorful variety of cubic capacities among the super sports cars: 600, 636, 675, 750, 848, 1000 and 1200 cubic meters – everything is represented. “No” contradicts M.V Agusta vehemently, “nothing, we have the new MV Agusta F3 800. La moto è bellissima e molto forte!” Our eyes wander over the design of the new F3.

The triplet growls clearly bassier and more powerful

Take the engine, for example: With exactly 798 cubic centimeters, the youngest MV outperforms its sister by 123 cubic meters or around 18 percent. The MV Agusta F3 800 generates its larger displacement from a longer stroke, which now measures 54.3 mm instead of 45.9 millimeters. Longer connecting rods, injection nozzles that are easier to pass through and pistons with a slightly higher compression, that’s it, the Italians didn’t change anything else on the hardware of the triplet. 148 horses and 88 Nm torque should now let go of the modified propellant on the pilot. How does that feel??

Start the engine. Wow, the three-cylinder growls and hisses from its three pipes, clearly bassier and more powerful – fantastico! With the new engine mapping, the large propellant also runs much more cultivated than the 675 cubic variant. The MV Agusta F3 800 accelerates very gently, especially in driving mode “N”, without having an indirect effect. The throttle response in sport mode “S” is even more immediate, but somewhat abrupt.

From 9000 tours onwards, the times can be worked hard

“The MV Agusta F3 800 has up to 30 hp more in the medium speed range than the 675,” a MV spokesman announced proudly the evening before. In fact, the 800 engine bravely starts to power up to around 4500 rpm, but then continues to build up its performance up to around 8500 rpm with noticeably reduced foam. Subjectively, not all of the promised ponies compete in this area, but only a performance measurement on our test bench provides exact values. It is already clear today: When you are engaged in time filing, the clock should always be around 9,000 tours, because then the F3 marches in a species-appropriate manner. From this mark onwards, the triplet also serves its performance nicely evenly before the limiter gently cuts off the juice at 13500 rpm.

Choosing the right gear is therefore important, the standard automatic gearshift helps sort the gear steps. In doing so, however, audible noises can sometimes be heard from the transmission of the MV Agusta F3 800. In addition, the gears on some of the test machines did not always interlock properly, especially between third and fourth gear – molto tristo! The secondary gear ratio, which MV increased by over eleven percent in order to adapt it to the increased power, is completely innocent.

The stability in an inclined position is still amazing

As usual, the MV Agusta F3 800 also has traction control. Although they re-coordinated the Italians, the system still does not work perfectly. Sometimes the TC does not intervene even when accelerating wildly out of the corners, not even at the most sensitive level (eight). If the bike is almost upright again, the TC suddenly regulates massively. In addition, there is no optical signal in the display that indicates when traction control is activated. So MV Agusta should do it again. The comparison of the front and rear wheel speed may also contribute to a better result. So far the system has been working without these parameters.

Let’s get to more positive things. First of all, the new, phenomenal slipper clutch should be mentioned. Thanks to it, the rear wheel glides smoothly over the asphalt even with the toughest braking attacks. In addition, the MV Agusta F3 800 turns very precisely and perfectly holds the line. The stability in an inclined position is still amazing, handling and feedback are also convincing. At least on the racing skins Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa in a medium-hard mix (SC1), which MV had raised for this presentation. As standard, the F3 rolls on the more moderate Diablo Rosso Corsa. Another highlight is the new brake with a stable pressure point, high transparency, tremendous deceleration and great controllability. However, the F3 still has to do without ABS.
